  1. Thanks Dave. It didn't come with anything but a battery and charger, but I got a hell of a deal on it.
  2. I got this pc105. It's a really nice camera, but everything on it is in Japanese. I've been playing with it for a couple of days and haven't had any problems figuring it out until this morning I wanted to plug it into the TV. The normal spot where you'd plug in an AV cable isn't there. It's got usb, firewire, lanc... everything you'd expect it to have except that one (mini rca I think it's called?). There is a spot marked AV, but I've never seen a plug like it. I've attached pics of all the ports on it. Can anybody tell me what I need to plug this into the regular red/white/yellow on a TV or VCR? Thanks for the help. Tony
  3. I started videoing tandems at a little under 200 jumps. When I watch the videos I shot back then I can tell that I wasn't ready. Not unsafe, but the video sucked. Although, if I started flying a camera at 500 jumps my first videos probably would still have sucked. I went into the TI cert course with exactly 500 jumps. After 3 or 4 hundred of them I haven't had any serious problems yet {knocking on wood}. There have been a few "exciting" ones, but I've managed to get stable and get the drouge out on all of them. I don't think I would have been any safer if I'd waited until 900 jumps instead of 500. Tandems require you to keep a cool head and think clearly under pressure sometimes, but I think doing good video requires more in the way of flying skills than tandems.
  4. I bought it used. I wonder if they'll give me anything for a trade in on it? It's in perfect shape. If not, maybe I can glue it to my 30 to 37mm ring somehow?
  5. I guess I could go 30.5 to 37 and then 37 to 30. Think it would vignette?
  6. I bought a waycool redeye .3 lens for my pc105. The lens is 30.5mm and my camera is 30mm. I've found every size step ring you can imagine, except for the one I need. Anybody know where I can get one?
  7. I'm a very safety conscious jumper. I don't condone being under the influence of ANYTHING while jumping. If I thought a student had done anything that would affect his attitude or performance I wouldn't even consider taking him up. What if it was less than a beer? What if it was a sip off someone else's beer? Would you turn a blind eye to that or is he still "under the influence". The right answer according to the rules you're describing is probably to send them home, but would you really be like that over a sip of beer?
  8. Thanks for the explanation. It helped. There's so much more to this than video. With video I just pushed the button on the side until the little picture of the mountains showed up and remember to turn it on before I climb out. As long as the TM turns them into the sun everything comes out great. This still camera comes with a whole new language. Fstop metering hyperfocal aperature iso dof..... It's enough to make your ass hurt. Can anybody recommend a good book for a beginner? I know I'm just a skydiver with a camera right now, but I really want to be a photographer.
  9. Would a tandem passenger fall into the category of "crewmember of a civil aircraft"? I can see where the 8 hr. rule would apply to a TM as "Parachutist in Command", but the passenger? Unless tandem passengers are considered crewmembers of a civil aircraft, I don't see how "1 beer a couple hours ago" would have anything to do with the FAR's you listed. It certainly wouldn't put them over the .04% BAC limit that § 91.17 states.
  10. Wow. I understood almost none of what you just said. Guess that's why I spent the extra $280 on the Sigma
  11. I'll probably catch some shit for saying it, but if they only had 1 beer and I was absolutely sure they were sober, I'd probably jump with them. It would definitley depend on the students' attitudes and actions, but really their alcohol content after 1 beer is probably lower than some of the people who party hard on Friday night and show up for the 8am tandem class on Saturday morning.
  12. I think I'm going to get one of these for my pc105. Any opinions on which one is best? The only one I've actually seen is Waycool's. Looks pretty well built. Does anyone know how Cookie Composite's Vertglove compares? How about Riggerrob's? Are there any other options? Thanks, Tony
  13. Do you know the experience level of the videographer and TM?
  14. is nice. So is my Sigma 14. I spent over twice as much on a Sigma 15mm than that Zenitar costs. Is it that much better? If so, why?
  15. That probably means no firewire too, right?
  16. It takes the Sony sticks too. You can check it out at http://www.micro-solutions.com/ I spent a lot of time looking for the best price on them. Dealtree.com is the cheapest place I could find it.
  17. I got the Roadstor from Dealtree.com for $144.00 including shipping. It's worth every penny. You can also hook it up to the TV or computer and view your pics as a slideshow or watch DVDs or play audio cd's.
  18. Yup, You just throw in your CF card and a blank CD. No computer needed. It's pretty slick. It takes about 5 or 6 minutes to burn a cd with 40 jpegs at 2-3Meg each. Do people often buy prints and cds, or is it usually one or the other?
  19. Just curious... How much are you charging them for the disk? How about prints? I just bought a 300D and a Roadstor and an Epson R300 for this season and I'm trying to figure out how much to charge for the prints and CD's.. I'll be the only one doing digital stills at our dz. The film guys charge $25 on top of the video price. Think I can get more than that for digital?

    AFF pay poll

Either does a good AFFI. The difference is he has to catch them, a tandem passenger isn't going anywhere. Derek The other difference is that, if an AFFI has a problem that he can't sort out someone might die and if as a TM I have a problem I can't sort out, that someone will probably be me. I'd like to try for an AFF rating this summer though. If I get it I'll probably change my tune... I think we should all get $50/jump. Maybe we should start a union

    AFF pay poll

By the way, where I jump it's: AFF....................$30 (either side) Tandems............$30 Video.................$20 If anybody deserves a raise over here I think it should be the video guys.

    AFF pay poll

I think tandems should pay more than AFF for 2 reasons. 1. Carrying that big ass rig around all day sucks. 2. Hazard pay. If my student (tourist) isn't behaving I can't just let him go at 2K. I do Tandems but not AFF so my opinion is obviously biased, but I've done alot of AFF video and most of the time it doesn't look that challenging. Don't get me worng, I have a lot of respect for the AFF guys at my DZ because of the "instructor skills" they have to have and because of what they went through to get the rating, but from what I've seen Tandems are alot harder work and therefore should pay more. Plus, at least you AFF guys get to jump your own canopies. Flying the SET 400 is alot less fun than my stiletto.
  23. It seems like everything in that store was a bit pricey. I paid $449 for the lens and I just saw the exact same lens on DigitalSaver.com for $100 less. They also tried to sell me a RoadStor cd burner for $269. I just bought a factory reconditioned one on ebay for $148. Is there a good reason I should be buying this stuff in the store instead of online, or did I just waste a bunch of money in there?
