  1. You'll have to wait until 10/2/2025 for that to happen....
  2. It appears that some people in Twin Falls have forgotten about all the tax dollars that jumpers bring to the area. I would like to know what "costs" are incurred due to BASE jumping (other than the world record jump)? Were any costs for the world record jump paid for by jumpers? The article isn't a surprise to me. As previously mentioned, everyone wants a piece of the pie. When I complained about the NPS charging us $2500 to rent the Bridge Day LZ, some locals wrote to the newspaper and said we should pay for the privilege to jump. Unfortunately, greedy people are slowly removing "free" from our everyday vocabulary... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

    Just curious....

Jumpers at Bridge Day are advised to inform the exit staff if they cannot swim. Then we radio down to water rescue so they are extra prepared. Regardless, water rescue usually reaches each jumper in less than 5 seconds. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  4. Donk and his crew deserve some serious credit for bringing the BASE Videofest to where it is today. Plus, he generously contributed the prize money. Anyone who enters the videofest can take home some serious cash and prizes. Nick's scoresheet deserves to hang in the BASE Hall of Fame. And how can Triax beat their last two entries? Maybe a video of Maggot reading a dictionary in freefall? (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  5. I met Andy at Bridge Day 1993 and he appeared to be fairly well-organized and likable. We chatted a few times over the years. In 2002, he gave Jim Guyer and I some advice on running Bridge Day under the Go Fast team - much of it was valuable. Generally speaking, he's a good guy. But, he did make some mistakes along the way that still haunt us today. According to my notes, back in 1992 Andy took over Bridge Day and the $10 per Bridge Day jumper fee paid to the Chamber of Commerce began (apparently without much disagreement). Then turning over the jumper list and assisting the NPS in arresting jumper(s) with outstanding warrants. Nick already mentioned the Space Needle incident. We all make mistakes in life and in BASE jumping, so Andy might not be that different than most of us. There is a lot of political influence in Fayetteville and it's easy to unknowingly side with the wrong people. As an organizer, you want to protect yourself and your fellow jumpers at the same time. But protecting your own interests at the expense of other jumpers will give you a bad reputation... (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  6. Check out the link that Donk listed above - it includes the judging criteria (same as last year). Cya. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

  9. In the early 90's, I put 80+ BASE jumps on my Cruiselite 220. I would happily jump it again as long as there is water below. Just give it more time and the Cruiselite will be extinct. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  10. Read post #1. Should have it shortly......cya. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  11. So far, 11% of all Bridge Day 2006 jumpers come from outside the USA. What kind of canopy numbers would we see if it were in Europe? What would be the most popular canopy? (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  12. That's some funny stuff. I knew I could get someone to fall for that. While being the most popular doesn't always equate to being the best, we can see a lot from this analysis. And I'm sure the manufacturers might be interested in knowing a rough estimate of their market share as well. Bridge Day is a pretty good representation of the BASE community with new and old jumpers attending each year. So I would assume that these numbers aren't off by that much when extrapolated to the entire BASE community. Stay tuned.....harness/containers will be posted shortly. PS. Who makes the "Aquila" canopy? Never heard of it. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  13. Here is a breakdown of 292 canopies in use and their popularity at Bridge Day 2006. When I get more time, I'll compare this to past years and also see which container is the most popular. I thought some of you techno-geeks might want to waste your workday by overanalyzing this list and checking to see if it all adds up to 100%. Enjoy. Ace ----- 17.12% Blackjack ----- 11.99% Fox ----- 11.64% Mojo ----- 10.62% Flik ----- 10.27% Troll ----- 9.59% Dagger ----- 7.19% Raven ----- 6.16% PD ----- 2.05% Cruiselite ----- 1.71% Fury ----- 1.71% Rock Dragon ----- 1.37% Aquila ----- 1.03% Falcon ----- 1.03% Lightning ----- 1.03% Dragon ----- 0.68% Pursuit ----- 0.68% Titan ----- 0.68% Triathalon ----- 0.68% Astrobe ----- 0.34% Interceptor ----- 0.34% Manta ----- 0.34% Parafoil ----- 0.34% Pisa ----- 0.34% Rascal ----- 0.34% Sharpchuter ----- 0.34% Spectre ----- 0.34% Edit: Canopies listed as per those submitted by registered BD2006 jumpers. Many jumpers have additional rigs, so this list shouldn't be considered accurate. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  14. Yep, I already noticed that 460. Just shoot me an email so I have your email address in my records. Then you'll start receiving email updates regarding the event. Click on BASE428 to the left for my email address. Thanks. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  15. At this point in time, we are not permitting the transfer of BD passes this year due to the additional work involved on our end. We were overwhelmed with numerous "Joe sold his pass to me" statements on the Thurs/Friday before Bridge Day and we had no way of verifying that Joe actually made the sale. There are plenty of slots still available, so it shouldn't sell out anytime soon. However, it is possible that we MIGHT make some exceptions and transfer a few passes only after the event sells out. 16. Congratulations. Perhaps I might have overlooked it, but is there a place where a BASE jumper can donate to his cause? (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  17. Thanks for the tips. I can easily set up a network between the server and clients, but I'm trying to do it without any type of PC at the client stations. I simply want an LCD/Mouse/Keyboard at each client location. No PC, no motherboard, no harddrive, no NIC..... There may not be a hardware solution to what I'm looking for. It looks like I'll be dusting off those 3-4 old PC's in my closet and using them. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  18. What about hardware? Is there a specific card that can be installed in the server that outputs KVM to six different systems? (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  19. I'm looking for a hardware solution to connect six LCD/Keyboard/Mouse systems to one server without having to have separate PC's at each location. I have an upcoming event where hundreds of jumpers will need to quickly scan through thumbnails on dumb terminals and then choose their photos to be printed. Think of it as needing a KVM solution for six different sites, but I need each site to have access to the server at the same time. See attached image. We'll probably use ACDSee or an HTML based thumbnail generating program like Batchimage to allow jumpers to quickly scan through photos. But if anyone has a better solution, I would appreciate any info. We are still early in the planning stages for this, but I'm hoping someone else has experience in this area (hardware or software). Thanks. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.

  21. Hey Seven, I'll be at Bridge Day. I believe we met in Norway at the 2004 Heliboogie. If you or anyone else arrives in West Virginia early that week, you are more than welcome to stay at my place. There are usually 1-2 jumpers here on Mon-Wed. I'm less than 2 hours drive away from NRGB and there are some small towers and smokestacks nearby. Cya. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  22. This is the fifth year we've opened registration at 2pm EST, but only the first time we've heard about the EST/EDT difference. You are correct - it should have been EDT. My apologies. So, would that change it to 20:00 GMT? (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  23. You'll get an email from me shortly that tells you which group you are in. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
  24. Inzite, You didn't get an email because it appears you entered an invalid email address (the email I sent you bounced). You might have incorrectly listed your email during the 2pm race to register. Email me with your correct email and I'll send you a copy of your invoice and more info. Thanks!!!! 25. Bridge Day Jumpers, Just so you know, when you add a jump slot to your cart, you are assigned an order number immediately. Even if you don't process that cart until 45 minutes later, you still have that particular order number. This order number determines your jump position (early is better). So, if you added a jump slot to your cart early on, you're probably in the first group. Cya. (c)2010 Vertical Visions. No unauthorized duplication permitted.
