  1. How come it says they only used one canopy and "no back-up". Anyone know if that crazy guy Per didn't have a reserve? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  2. This happened two days ago at Sebastian. Some guy who was consolidating realised that his alti hadn't changed from 12k for a while. He looked at the ground and realised he was low and pulled. Was in the saddle at about 2.5k. While on the ground the alti showed 2k. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  3. How ridiculous. Why on earth would a well known skydiver and wingsuit flyer like Loic want to fake something and lose all further credibility with the rest of the skydiving community? Pointless thread. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  4. Are there many job opportunities for English Broadcast Journalists or TV Producers in Florida? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  5. "A loose bridle in freefall is a serious situation. The correct solution for this problem is to deploy the main pilot chute, but it may be very difficult to find if the main is no longer in the tray. This is perhaps the most significant problem with BOC deployment systems." I read this on Skydivingfatalities.com. Is anyone able to explain why it will be harder to find my pilot chute when my bag has left the container? I'm also curious as to why horseshoe malfunctions are supposed to be so nasty. Isn't it simply a case of deploying my pilot chute? Any help much appreciated. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  6. What happened? I don't like turbulence under canopy one little bit "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  7. Shouldn't this be in the incidents forum? What conclusive evidence do we have that this was a suicide? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  8. Aw, never mind, it was nice to say 'hi', Denise. I'm still having fun here and could well stay at least another two weeks(!) Hopefully see you again at some point and well done on your '100th'. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  9. Well I'm arriving in Sebastian this Thursday, so if you see a lonely Brit wandering around lost and shy, do present yourself and say, "Hello!"
  10. Or any others? List them below... "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  11. I do jump but I wasn't taught that during AFF ground school. Neither was I taught to pull silver if I go low. Every day I log on here I learn something else that will save my life if the need arises that I wasn't taught during AFF...very worrying. Any Norwegians able to solve the video conundrum yet? Hurry up
  12. In relation to your second point, why cant a reserve snivel or mal? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  13. Any idea why it would be more sensible to go for silver if one has gone low? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  14. Calling all Norwegians...I'm dying to know what's just happened in this film... "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  15. Can someone point me in the direction of a site that can explain the difference between these and also explain whether the UK has similar grades? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  16. Can't download the file? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  17. Hang on, if they both fell at the same vertical speed, how on earth did one person get an extra 13 seconds of freefall? Isn't that over a thousand feet? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  18. http://www.headdown.net/archive/movies/skywalkers.mov Right click and download this movie (31mb). The opening sequence shows what appears to be a jumper landing and explaining how his cypres just fired. Or was it a cutaway? Anyone speak Swedish? "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." 19. Yes, but that's stating the obvious...no-one ever gains altitude in freefall, and 'whuffos' are often heard to remark whether it hurts when one is 'goes-up' when watching videos of canopy deployments. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  20. Yes, those articles are good...except for one tiny 'whuffo' thing I spotted "...make sure there is no-one above you before you go belly-to-earth or you run the risk of 'corking' (see later) and will go up and collide at a very high speed with anyone above you." After reading that Blinc forum posting, its obvious there are lots of misconceptions about selling your footage to television. This will give you an idea of how much you should be selling your clips for: http://www1.sky.com/pdf/SkyN_ratecard2.pdf Remember, these are the minute minimum rates. In other words, you should always be paid for a minutes footage, even if they only use 10 seconds. Thus if you sold a 6 second clip to CNN say, you should be paid no less than £2,460 ($4,029). This is because they're a rolling news channel and will repeat the clip every hour for 24 hours, and they broadcast worldwide. I have a huge amount of experience of selling clips to television news and production companies worldwide and I know every single trick in the book they try to use. If anyone want's any independent advice, PM me. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience

Sure, but that guy in the thread is a non-jumper working for a large TV company trying to get footage for nothing. I'm a skydiver who is simply interested in seeing if BASE is what I want to do. But yes, you're right, if possible it's always best to ask permission "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience

Is it possible to spend a week watching jumpers here? Is there local accomodation etc? I'm interested in filming and watching jumpers from the landing area but also from the exit points. In other words, is it possible to climb up, then climb down again? Or do you have to jump "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
  24. Newbie question: When people talk about landing on their risers, do they mean using their rear risers to steer their canopy? Does on simply pull down on them like one would their toggles? For some reason I wasn't taught anything about this during AFF. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." William Blake, Songs of Experience
