  1. At least there are some reasonable people living there. I don't think she really grasps weather, jump runs and air traffic. It'd be kind of hard to quarter a flight box but she sounds like at least she has a good head upon her shoulders. Kim sounds like she is grasping for straws asking to forgo FAA grant assurances. I'm sure the rest of the towns ear perked up when she asked that question and she is going to slowly estrange herself from the rest of the town on her own. Too bad with all of the other people's money she is spending she could actually do something good for a charity with a good cause rather than an absurd cause like CQS. Animal shelters, homeless people or a food pantry. I just find it all rather sad. I honestly would definitely upgrade the airport security. Kim Gibbs reminds me of "The Terminator" Kyle Reese: Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever.
  2. I have the same kind of problem well minus the not being able to hear, chewing gum helps some but I've been thinking that eventually I might just try a sinus specialist.
  3. I agree, I've done a couple of quick back to back coach jumps and my 2nd jump just hasn't went all that well if its been rushed. I need time to process what just happened, what I did right, what I did wrong, etc. Mentally tired is much different than physical. But mainly I just need time to wind down after the huge shot of adrenaline that my body just took and then I can refocus and jump again. I've had the rundown/hangover feeling the next day too and it doesn't matter if I drink beer or not drink any. Its called an adrenaline hangover. I'm still a student in skydiving but my job as an ICU nurse involves adrenaline in different ways such as code blues and saving lives and I'm the most senior on the 12 night shift. Then if I try to last till noon the next day to jump after working...well its probably not the smartest thing to do in my case and I have held off jumping because of it before. When I have jumped I have been literally just shit the next day. Now that probably is because of my screwed up sleeping schedule but add in a stressful job and jumping out of an airplane a few times and yeah I'll admit I get run down the next day maybe even the day after that. I think I'm acclimating to it as I get more used to jumping and learning what works for me and what doesn't. I have stood down from jumps and told my instructors that I'm just not ready for it but at the same time I badly want to get my A license. I know that not your situation but anyways I know what you are going through. It doesn't help that I'm getting older either lol. Basically my suggestion is to listen to what your body is telling you actually screaming at you. I know that sounds dumb but adjust to what works for you. Sure it might be your health and seeing a doctor isn't a bad thing if you haven't been there in a while. Having 999 jumps in 3 years though I would imagine that you are acclimated to adrenaline but maybe not I don't know you. Maybe your job is stressful and requires you to mentally focus and you add in 15 jumps the previous day and your body just wants to shut down. But yeah I'd just say you need to slow down and relax a bit, find what works for you. People don't realize it because they do it all the time but adrenaline is quite stressful on the body, its the basic fight or flight response. We use epinephrine to bring people back to life during a code and that's the same stuff your body releases each time you jump. I'd imagine people with higher numbers get acclimated and used to it. Anyways sorry to drag on my post but yeah your body is human and it does get worn down may not seem like skydiving is much work but your body is telling your otherwise so just listen to it. I found a story about a reporter that was headed to a railcar fire and this kind of sums it up at least me I guess "I can’t speak for Aziza, but I was in a full adrenaline rush. Besides ice cream, adrenaline is my favorite addiction because the world comes into sharp focus, my energy surges, my memory traps every morsel of information and I feel ALIVE. Let me make this clear, the rush that gives me so much I realize is at the expense of something or someone else and for that reason it is to be eschewed as a source of chemical pleasure. Better to stick with ice cream to console oneself, but adrenaline is an amazing changer of the inner self. Except for when it’s over. We finished our traipsing about, attended a news conference and returned to the office to write. She was in charge of the main story, and I contributed some local color. I could feel the rush subsiding and knew what was coming. By bedtime, though, I spent it among friends burning off the remainder of the adrenaline with too much chatter. I was spent to grogginess. Saturday was little better. On Sunday, though, I had to report an out-of-town story, fatigue was my constant companion. You’d think I would learn to avoid adrenaline or at least learn to manage my emotions better. Adrenaline will suck the life out of you for days after the few hours of clarity and energy you enjoy. That negative reinforcement should be enough, but sadly to say, it is not. http://amarillo.com/lifestyle/our-town/2011-09-19/adrenaline-leaves-nasty-hangover Adrenaline actually has a lot to do with PTSD in combat veterans but that's a whole nother can of worms. Anyways hope you get to figure out what works for you. Oh and a general rule of thumb for a pulse oximetry reading in a 35yr old non smoker should be 92% or above in a healthy person 95-100%. I wouldn't waste you money on one though but it would be fun to play with on the way to altitude!
  4. It creeps me out the way that she looks away from the camera most of the time during the interview. Her non-verbals are all over the place, from frowning to laughing, eyes up and down looking to the right..just basically looks like her mind is working overtime and you can tell by her non-verbals she is all over the place. I'm not going to say she is crazy or anything like that but if you turn the sound off and just watch her non-verbals its creepy, deceitful comes to mind. Does she always answer her questions like that or always speak like that?
  5. Its Polaris's answer to Can Am's Spyder http://image.motortrend.com/f/roadtests/alternative/1401_2014_can_am_spyder_quick_drive/67283106/2014-can-am-spyder-st-s-yellow.jpg Basically designed after a snowmobile. If you want speed though just go for the snowmobile and spend some bucks like this one lol. On ice 163mph in 1000' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FdF0wgTikM Same sled 7.646 @ 178mph in 1320' on asphalthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2exdG4S_ZuI&feature=iv&src_vid=_FdF0wgTikM&annotation_id=annotation_307271 Not sure how much the Spyder and Slingshot weigh and yeah they are a little ugly but for straight line speed if done right the possibilities are there to eat Hayabusas, Vettes and drag cars for lunch. I'll just stick with my Polaris though on ice for now. I have to have someway to get my shots of adrenaline in the wintertime. 100 mph on ice and snow is plenty fast for me.
  6. Update!!! Had an awesome jump this weekend and got my legs figured out at least better than they were before! Had a great stable free fall and even was able to keep on heading. It felt great finally having it all come together and for the 1st time in my life I really feel like I am a skydiver! Even though I've technically been a skydiver for a while now I had that goal in my head and it was an amazing feeling!!! Practicing and pointing the toes really helped, as soon as I started "potato chipping" I just arched more and consciously bent my legs and it stopped immediately. Then I just worked on relaxing and focused on feeling the air pushing back against me. Keeping on heading just somehow came natural and I made little corrections with my hands and shoulders. It was one of the most amazing feelings I've ever had in my life! Thanks for the advice from here and from my instructors too. One bit of advice I think helped a lot was to let go on the "upswing" of my body and just hanging out there for a bit and clearing my head for one or two seconds.
  7. Thanks for the advice! I guess I should be more clear I think I got my terminology messed up. Rather than a poised exit its a hanging exit, my feet are not on the step, I'm hanging from the strut. Anyways I hear you about clearing my head and find that if I just focus for one or two seconds before letting go I relax better and my jump has better results. Last two jumps I did the 1st one I got out on the strut hung for a bit and it went fine. The next one I figured I did fine the jump before so I got out head went up and I let go without really thinking about it in my head. I didn't prepare myself for the arch or my legs and the results weren't so good. It makes sense to get the rest right and then I can focus just on my legs. Wasn't sure if pointing my toes or focusing on flexing my calf muscles would help or not but I'll skip that and focus on just practicing the arch with my legs bent. Each jump I'm learning a lot more though and this advice helps. My instructor mentioned the same couch technique and I will start it doing it immediately.
  8. Just was curious if any instructors out there had any tips or advice on how one might become more aware or at least get their legs into the proper position quickly to get over the hill from a poised exit off the wing. I just can't quite seem to get it right. I arch but my legs end up screwing me up by going straight or dropping a leg half the time and its getting aggravating. I plan on lying around the house for a while with my legs bent to at least maybe get some muscle memory. Just wondering if anyone had some basic helpful pointers. Thanks
  9. Yeah I was kind of joking and couldn't help it....I'm a Raiders fan But yeah definitely if you involve some public figures and talk to the Thuderstorm it couldn't hurt. I can't wait to get to Raiders Broncos game someday to see them burn into a packed stadium like they do and then head to the DZ to jump! What DZ does the Thunderstorm jump out of? We were lucky enough to ATTEND the Broncos-Bills game Dec of 2014. The Demo team made a GREAT performance and were a Crowd favorite..... GOOD idea, to have some Prominent citizens of the area, chime In.... I am nervous,, and a bit uncertain....... about the idea of having ONE person i.e. the Judge, make this decision.... I sure Hope that HER HONOR,,,,, is blessed with some common sense...
  10. I think its time to call in John Elway, the Denver Broncos and the Broncos Thunderstorm demo team. Those things are sacred in Colorado just like the buffalo is to the Native Americans.
  11. I always love watching this vid of ground launching a Flight Concepts Pro 170. I think its because its such a bad ass song, Rammstein fucking rules! Looks painful though, had he connected on of the rocks I could imagine it'd be real easy to shatter a pelvis. Although it looks he had a little too much right toggle and then finishes it off by burying it @ 1:30 and 1:42. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay35xktJyyU And one more that I found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4CbOmf04zY I don't really plan on trying it anytime soon though until I get a safe oppurtunity to do so with someone that is experienced. But its fun to watch at least. Man Rammstein is definitely on my bucket of must see bands.
  12. So now they are offering the alternative that if a jumper doesn't want to get fingerprinted then they can pay for a criminal background check. I thought the boycott worked, guess not.
  13. First choice #2 2nd #4. As far as marketing goes I volunteered to be our dropzone's marketing guy and I guess I always knew it but there is actually a science to colors and how people will "feel" about your product. I'm sure that your marketing guys know that though but different color schemes elicit different feelings.
  14. I was talking about the student rigs, sore hips was from the small rental rig. I haven't gotten to use my rig or hornet yet. I've heard they fly pretty flat though which will be great in case of a long spot.
  15. http://www.desmoinesskydivers.com/#!dropzone/c15n8 Thanks, looks like they have everything I'll need.
  16. I took the time off from work already for Couch Freaks so I was bummed when I saw the announcement. However I'll probably be coming down to make some jumps out of the Otter. Is there any tent camping available there at all or I guess is it allowed?
  17. Chapman thanks for the info from the UK site, I had found the parachute manuals site but didn't see that the UK had rigging manuals too, great collection of resources there. EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks Mark! This confirms its a 170! Still have yet to hear from either Aerodyne or Parachute de Frances, they kind of lost a vote of confidence from me but I do understand that the Hornet isn't their canopy too however its very discouraging when you call 6 times in two days and only get a hold of one person and are still waiting for an email that has yet to come. My weight is 155 lbs I've been told to figure 20 lbs for the gear for a total exit weight of 175lbs. Wingload 1.029/1. I don't plan on jumping this rig until my instructors give me the ok though. The container and harness Vector II that I bought used though fits me perfectly, well perfect as far as I can tell but its better than the small sized student rig. Last time I jumped that rig it made my hips feel...I don't how to explain it but when I walked the next day I definitely felt it after 1 jump and it was a nice stable deployment. With the large sized student rig, my shoulder straps didn't quite feel right and left some nice bruises on my torso from the chest and shoulder straps sliding think had some nice bruises on the legs too. So needless to say I'm pumped to get my own rig. At my age less pain is a good thing, I'm just not as young as I used to be. I realize that I only have 15 jumps and will wait for the go ahead from my instructors to jump my own rig but it will definitely be nice to have a harness that fits my body type I'm hoping I won't be quite so sore the next day even if the container is 20yrs old. For canopy size yes I realize that its definitely going to fly completely different than the huge student canopies that I'm used to bigger risk for linetwists and things happen a lot faster. I've heard the Hornet needs a 2 stage flare, 1st to level it out and the 2nd to stop the forward speed. The student canopy I've flown I just dig out a nice hard flare all in one motion and they've all been nice gentle touch down landings, well except for the 2 PLFs that I was required to do. Next time in the air I'm going to practice the 2 stage flare up high and work on flat/brake turns. Reserve will be a PDR 160 and I confirmed with UPT that the main and reserve are compatible for my container. Brand new AAD is on its way as well. The one thing that my rig won't have that I'd like would be an RSL. Anyways I'm absolutely pumped that I now own my OWN rig and that I was able to piece together a rig that didn't break the bank. Bonus, once I start jumping my own rig I will be saving more money for jump tickets! Maybe I'll see you guys at Lost Prarie. Have a great Saturday!
  18. Great no email in my box Tried calling Aerodyne and seems no one is home. Yesterday when I called I barely got 1 person to answer. Maybe there is a convention or boogie somewhere, I dunno. Can't call the Frenchies because I'm sure they are closed now for the weekend. Looked in the endcells where sometimes they print information nothing there and if it was there I might not be able to see it anyway since the material is black. Oh well I'll take it over to my riggers house this weekend and have him do an inspection on it. Guess we can measure it out and see to be sure. Plus side it looks to be in great condition :)
  19. I looked at the entrance to the end cells along the rib material and couldn't find anything printed in there on my PISA Hornet. Probably doesn't help that the material is black though.
  20. Thanks for sharing man. Are there any more speed flying schools in the US? I really dig this and it'd be a dream of mine to learn how. In my back yard there is a ~35 degree hill completely bare meadow that runs down 500'-600' over about 200'-250' vertical rise not sure if that is a big enough hill to do anything with but man it'd be great to practice on those off days.
  21. For those of you that jump a PISA Hornet, I was just curious what the label on your canopy says for an exit weight and what size/yr is your canopy? The label is smudged and I can't quite make it out for the sq footage but I wanted to absolutely be sure. I believe I have a 170 and have a call into Aerodyne who are emailing Parachute de France but the label shows exit weight as 204 lbs/93 kg. There isn't much online for the orphaned Hornet. Also if its not too much trouble what size is your slider? I heard in '02 or '03 they went to a bigger slider. Mine has brass grommets and is from '01. Thanks
  22. As an aside: Vector II's and old Vector III's had crappy foam that goes 'flat' after a while. One can slip new foam between the leg straps and leg covers. Heavy duty but thin closed-cell camping mat foam. There are tricks to sliding the skinny piece of foam in. A rigger would usually do it as on many rigs one has to remove and resew a nonstructural zigzag stitch to get the foam in. I've done that for a bunch of customers. Thanks chapman I will definitely check on this, it finally arrived in the mail yesterday! Fits great but looks decent it'll be need some new velcro in a few spots and the risers look a little worn with no RSL so I'll probably just get new.
  23. Thanks for all of your opinions. I went ahead and bought it, should be here soon. The seller is a rigger himself so I know he wouldn't ruin his reputation based on selling an old container. That and my rigger will do an inspection to make sure its airworthy, if its not it will go back. I did make sure that all of the necessary parts are included and it does include the reinforced risers. With shipping included it was $270. Hopefully it will fit decent, I'm not too overly worred as I know it will much more comfortable than the rental rigs I use now. That and the seller is virtually the same exact size as me. Now I just have to find a decent used 170 main and reserve and an AAD and I'll be all set!
  24. Yes the bulletin is from May of 1992, it took me a while to find the manual for the Vector II. I don't plan on freeflying for now so that's not really an issue. For those of you that do own a Vector II though, how comfortable or uncomfortable of rig is it?
  25. Also I'm waiting to hear back on a serial # and model # but according to the seller its an almost exact match for my weight and height and will accomadate the 170 canopies I want and will be able to eventually downsize to 150's later on down the road.
