  1. DtHames What exactly is that software that you have? Looks interesting. Next time I jump I will try the brake challenge. Its just one more thing that I need to learn about my canopy. I only w/l at a 1.03 but I'm curiuos to see what it does.
  2. Pretty lucky he had an RSL, was that a skyhook? After checking and resecuring his selfie stick at 1:29 he goes for his handles then changes his mind? Takes another 8 secs and then exectues his EPs? Not sure why he delayed that long, looks like a lot of g forces on a crossbraced canopy.
  3. Here it is TK's accuracy seminar I learned a lot from reading this! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=146319;
  4. Has anyone given you your B license progression card yet? http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/files/Form_CPProficiencyCard.pdf I plan on just heading to either Eloy or Florida sometime this winter for a canopy course but I know you can have this stuff signed off at your home DZ too and don't necessarily need to take a canopy course. I do the same thing and run out my base a little longer sometimes as well or turn in a little shorter depending on the winds etc. If you think about it unless its a no wind day you will always be crabbing anyways on your base. I found a great article somewhere in here that I printed off to improve your accuracy and it basically talks about that exact same thing. As soon as I find it I'll post it for ya. I did find this as well, not quite what you are asking but still a great article by PD http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=48240;
  5. Here's a pic of Duggy. http://www.duggy.com/About_Real_Duggy.html Operating cost $1600/hr. Website says to contact them for bookings and it looks like they did an airshow in Fargo as recent as 2014.
  6. Don't forget about Duggy! http://www.aero-news.net/index.cfm?do=main.textpost&id=6cb17b9e-dc14-461d-a6bd-c21a96617736
  7. Could anyone say what the recovery arc is like on a Hornet? My understanding is that this is more common on canopies with shorter recovery arc, no? I managed to do a one sided stall after practicing flares on a Silhouette 190 (which has a very short recover arc). Luckily no line twists but it sure was a quick drop from 1500 to 1000 feet... "No shit, there I was..." I jump the exact same canopy Hornet 170 wingloaded @ 1:1. I'd imagine that what you said on planing out, then flaring then turning is exactly what happened. A couple weeks ago I did a toggle stall with plenty of altitude for the first time on my Hornet. It had a very quick recovery. 1st time I've ever tried that wasn't as bad as I thought but definitely a weird feeling making a perfectly good canopy 'go away' and then come back.
  8. Did you guys get a good turnout? Had a blast at Redemption Boogie this. Planning out my vacation schuedule and was wondering which weekend in July does it normally fall on?
  9. Here is a better video of the demo though. http://www.vikings.com/media-vault/videos/Parachuters-Make-Big-Entrance-at-Home-Opener/eafcdc6d-b67b-40f5-9e85-6b230385d450
  10. Its even on their website http://www.denverbroncos.com/multimedia/videos/Skydiving-into-Sports-Authority-Field/da337f2d-98f6-453a-be78-73e69185a238 I gotta admit though I really can't wait to go to a Broncos Raiders game and see it for myself.
  11. I still think one call to John Elway could fix all of this. Its a well known fact Coloradans love the Broncos. The Thunderstorm jumps every game promoting our sport ever home game @ Mile High Stadium or whatever they call it now in front of 50,000 screaming fans. John Elway is the GM of the Broncos and could probably run for Governor of CO and he'd probably win 90% of the vote. Well just have John Elway and his Broncos do some kind of public service announcement at the stadium when the Thunderstorm jumps in. Get the public support behind Mile-Hi saying something like the Thunderstorm is being threatened by the evil Kimmy and BAM John Elway quashes the Kimmy Longmont threat! Ok back to your regular programming! Go Raiders!! Haha :)
  12. Thanks for all the responses. Decided I'd keep jumping it and just get a new line set after this season. I've had pretty good luck with the opening and quite honestly I don't mind a "firm" opening at all. Its the sniveling openings that kind of freak me out a bit. I'm still perfecting my packing but a fellow jumper did a pack job on my hornet once and actually it sniveled quite nicely. I just shove the nose as far into the canopy as I can get it and make absolutely sure that the slider is quartered perfectly. I don't know if there is any truth to the PISA using a bigger slider from 2002 on but mines a 2001. I've tried to do a little research on this but seems that Aerodyne doesn't know a great amount about the Hornets any longer. Hell I don't ever really know how long they were made much less if they changed sliders. I guess I could measure mine and post it, if anyone has a 2002 or later I'd be interested in their slider size as it'd be nice to at least help reduce the possibility of a slammer opening if I keep this thing for a while. The only thing that I don't like is it has a tendancy after opening to....open----> left for a bit------> right for a bit while I'm looking up at it and wondering what hell is causing it...I pop my rear risers a tad and it takes care it but it acts like its possessed, happens about 1/5 times. I'm thinking this can just be attributed to the old lines though or maybe my pack job. Unstable...how did your jump on the Hornet go? Did you drag it out of your basement yet? If I see any Hornets around DougH I will definitely message you.
  13. Achikin I have my reasons. Just was wanting the comparison specifically of the flare of the big 3. For myself the canopies flare happens to be most important aspect when choosing a canopy. Thanks
  14. I'm curious how ZPX material is holding up now after 400+ jumps?
  15. Good luck finding a manual for the Hornet. If you do happen to find one though I would soo much appreciate if I could get a copy of it. I've tried calling Aerodyne and they haven't been much help with my Hornet. I kind of found out that you get what you pay for.
  16. I'm pretty interested in this topic as well. Have been using an old Hornet and am trying to decide between the Sabre 2 Safire 2 and the Pilot. Don't really know if I want to go and stick the $$ into a new lineset on it or not :/ Guess mainly what I want is the canopy with the BEST possible flare available in ALL conditions as where I jump conditions can change fast. Thanks
  17. Thanks for the responses. Well just kind of testing to see who all is still jumping one is all really and their experiences with it, good, bad, ugly, etc. I guess I'm just debating on whether or not I want to buy a new line set for the Hornet 170 that I have or say screw it and buy Safire 2, Pilot or a Sabre 2 or something like that. I don't really care about swooping all that much. I just want to get back on the ground safely and have a canopy with a superb flare in conditions. Heatwave sounds interesting but not quite ready for that aggressive of a canopy yet.
  18. Just curious if anyone is still jumping a PISA Hornet? Thanks
  19. Points all well taken. Believe me I was definitely looking around for other traffic and I can definitely say with 100% confidence there were no other canopies in the sky besides me at the time. 2 of us got out of Cessna @ 4000' and the other 2 had to ride up to 10K. I watched the other hop and popper land his canopy while I was on base. Anyways I know it was a mistake and definitely do realize how important canopy flow is at a bigger event like this. I had just went from one extreme of 20mph winds to 0 winds and I had turned in a little too soon. Definitely was not intentional at all, my student canopy I had been using in the past sunk in a lot faster but it should as it was an F 111 7-cell. This on was my 9 cell ZP and I definitely wasn't expecting that much glide out of it. I was testing it out in the air all weekend and did a high pull and then this hop n cop just for extra canopy time. But like I said I did definitely account for all other canopies in the air, which was me and me alone. I did talk with the other hop and popper he didn't have all that many jumps either but he actually almost collided with some dude just walking across the landing area looking down at his phone with his head down, he yelled at him.... the guy didn't hear him so he avoided him and only got a few scrapes from the concrete. Dude didn't even really apologize. I'm going to definitely going to start learning how to do flare turns as I get more canopy time on my new canopy. I've got brake turns down but flare turns I haven't tried yet. Believe me I definitely learned a lot in the 4 jumps in got and I don't want to ever stop learning.
  20. Well on the 4th jump on my canopy on jump #41 fresh off of my A-license I go and inadvertently enter a swooping contest. 4th jump on my canopy ever and the previous 3 jumps were in high winds. I overshot my target (the boobies), there were just two of us on a hop and pop and I watched the other jumper land already and canopy traffic wasn't an issue. So I thought to myself 'well hell I know can make those gates, I'll just go over there that looks like nice spot to land' :) Haha little did I know the boogie was having a swooping contest I must have missed the announcement. I entered the gates did a 1/2 flare and with no wind it drove a ways, finished off my flare and touched down and noticed an organizer standing there with a clip board "25yds" she says. I'm thinking to myself 'ok what does that mean' she's like "great job you hit the gates and did awesome!" I was like you are never going to believe this but that was my 4th time on this canopy on my 41st jump and my A-license isn't even a week old. Apparently I even beat a few people that weren't able to hit the gates. Maybe if they factored in my 1:1 wingloading per yard! Haha. Anyways it makes for a great story and I had a blast! I was thinking well dammit I want to go to 13,500' I can hop out of Cessnas at home, had I never made that jump I wouldn't have a cool story. Don't worry I don't plan on swooping or downsizing anytime soon, I'm a member of SoFPiDaRF
  21. Just wanted to say thanks for the .PDF file in post #32 TK. I used it my last few jumps and I have to say it helped tremendously! I was worried about getting my 20M landings for my progression card but I've been nailing my landings lately, spot on! (well at least 20M or less every time). Using the base and eyeing the target now it just seems natural to turn in for final when I see the target stop moving. Still though on no wind days and high wind days I will have to see how it goes. On the student canopies on high wind days I have come literally straight down with little to no forward drive (that was on a 7 cell F111 though). And on my last no wind day I overshot (that was on a 9 cell ZP though). However after mainly using the same F111 7 cell, I've gotten used to it and its easy to transition to hit the target. Honestly about the S-turns though, I'm really not a big fan of them. I guess mainly because I want to keep as stable under canopy as possible and don't really like the rocking feeling going back and forth. My last day of jumping I got to experience thermals coming off of the ground, had I been doing S turns I really can't say what my canopy would have done and I really don't think I want to find out either. I still hit my spot even with the thermals though using your technique and feel a lot more confident in my patterns. As for 1/2 brakes, I did have to do a 1/2 braked approach as part of the A progression card and it actually worked pretty well for me. Again however that was with an F111 canopy so I'm not sure how differently as ZP would react. I will be finding out soon though as my 'new rig' is being put together by my rigger for this weekend. Its a PISA Hornet 170. I plan on testing out the canopy as much as I possibly can to see what it does ie: glides better for long spots with 1/4 brakes or with rear risers, finding the sweet spot in the flare, braked turns, reverse turns, etc. I will be going to my first boogie in 2 weekends so I want to get my canopy down for traffic for sure I'm thinking of eventully trying flare turns as I get more comfortable with my canopy as I do want to have that in my arsenal just in case someone jumps out in front of me on the ground when I least expect it. I doubt that I'll be trying them soon but any advice on flare turns would be much appreciated. Either way if I do try them I'll definitely be trying them above 2500' to get a feel for them. Anyways thanks for the PDF on the accuracy seminar TK, I know it helped me a lot I'm just glad that I ran across it.

  23. I would definitely have to move, the only time traffic gets backed up here is from tractors and combines.
  24. This is the sign at the top landing area of the big tram at Jackson Hole Ski Resort.
  25. Thanks for the reply John. I've done a lot more jumps since I posted this and yep exactly right just need more time getting my knees in the breeze. Everything is really starting to come together now, exits feel better and it just feels more natural to my body being in the air. I think I might try the no socks trick though and see how that feels once, I must have missed that suggestion. Will try it today. The couch trick works though! Tomorrow I get to work on tracking!! Woot!! Hopefully will keep getting in jumps because I need my A license by Aug 1st for the Lost Prarie Boogie! Can't friggin wait!
