  1. Have had mine for a few weeks and second your assessment. The only (slight) drawback for me is I have to be careful when I put it on over my glasses as it's a bit of a tight fit. Once it's on, though, I love it. My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...
  2. Am looking to replace my BH Revolve because it sometimes leaks wind into during a hard arch when belly flying. Can anyone comment on the amount of air that gets into the Aero? My eyes seem to be very sensitive to air flow and tear up if there is much of any wind. My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...

  4. Call to arms! HB 1550, which among other things, will tax skydiving, passed in the Washington State House of Representatives and has been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Ways and Means Committee in Olympia on Wednesday, March 25 @ 3:30 pm. If you are a Washington State resident or plan to skydive in Washington, it would be great if you can make it to the hearing and testify against this portion of the bill, or write to your Senator or any member of the Ways and Means Committee requesting their vote against the bill as long as it contains a provision to tax skydiving. Taxing skydiving is in violation of federal law. Details about the bill and an easy comment feature is at apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?year=2015&bill=1550 Details about why skydiving taxation is against federal law is at USPA's website here: www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/2013DOTOpinion.pdf My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? 5. From what I've seen of you at the DZ, John, you have the right attitude. You're one of the ones I always pay attention to! I'm guessing you were a great CPC. 6. I've been listening to Jump Twenty-Six since the first podcast came out in August and they've got some great stuff. They're a nice addition to Skydive Radio, and Radio Skydive UK (both of which are also available on iTunes). My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...
  7. The date of my Pilot built in 2004 was on the warning label. Check your slider, too. I can't confirm on mine because it's at my rigger right now, but I recall there was a date stamped on the edge. It's likely the date of the slider and not the canopy, but it should be close if it's the original slider. My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...
  8. I've got about 40 jumps on my Pilot 168 and it also almost always turns to the right on opening - anywhere from 90 to 270 degrees. Haven't been able to figure out why. For awhile I thought it was because I pushed in the nose during packing, but that hasn't panned out. If I packed it in the southern hemisphere would it turn to the left? I like the canopy otherwise. My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...
  9. No hookups or camping except during their boogie, which was last weekend, but I think there are lots of places nearby. My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...

  12. Years ago I worked at a fish hatchery that used ozone to disinfect the water supply. Rubber parts on cars parked near the ozone generator suffered very rapid deterioration because of the waste gas released to the atmosphere. I don't think I'd opt for ozone treatment of my rig... 13. Do you think it would be feasible to use a hook knife in a situation where you needed to get rid of your helmet? My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...
  14. Overall I'm satisfied with my Benny. I bought the "advanced" version. For one thing it's not as commonly seen as the ubiquitous ProTecs, so I can feel just a little bit unique as a beginning skydiver. My one complaint about it is the teensy velcro tabs that connect the liner to the shell aren't quite up to the job. On mine the tabs holding the ear pieces were attached to the end of the chin strap where the strap is riveted to the shell. Those failed as soon as I removed that liner section to see how to install an audible. I was able to reinstall them using contact cement and they've held up well after about 20 jumps. However, I don't fiddle with the liner now and so don't know how it will do long-term. Oh, and forget about trying to route your goggle strap through the channel on the helmet - you can do it if you remove the liner, but at least with my goggles the helmet doesn't allow them to seal to my face. Just put your goggles on your noggin before you put your Benny on! My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...

  16. I think I've seen only one jumper at my dropzone wearing earplugs. I'm going to start wearing them because I've got pretty bad tinnitus too. I don't have an audible altimeter yet, but if I get one would I be able to hear it well enough with plugs in? My Dad used to ask me if someone jumped off a bridge would I do that too? No, but if they jumped out of an airplane, that's a different question...

    Benny

Wanted to reward myself after passing AFF, but not spend a lot of money, and settled on the new Advanced Benny. It fits much better than the DZ's Protecs, has more style (in my opinion) than Protecs, and gives me the option of installing audible altimeters in either or both ears. My real only complaint is that the liner is held in place with some poorly-placed velcro patches. The liners for the ears are separate from the main liner and are held with 3 small velcro patches, one of which is glued right on the attachment point for the chin strap webbing. This gives very little surface area for the glue to hold, and the first time I tried to remove the liner to look at how to install an audible, the glue gave way. I think I solved this at least temporarily by regluing using contact cement, but doubt it will hold up well if I actually repeatedly remove the liner when using an audible. I think this is a good entry level helmet, but be careful when peeling out the liner.
