  1. even if legal, there's still the issue that it's incredibly irresponsible to do so - anyone who's ever held a security clearance at a workers level knows how serious this is and should be upset and want the facts (whether they worship a D OR an R) perhaps if he put it on a private server and let it leak in a more organic way.....(no, that's also wrong, and an entirely different scenario which should, in no way, be treated as a discussion point or comparison in cases of different ways secure information is mishandled. I mean, stop it, one should read a dictionary on the terms analogy, comparison, equivalency, etc etc etc......) ... oh my,,, it's not 'exactly' equal in any way. Nothing is, it's why I hate those 'but, it's not the same'. Just acknowledge the overlap and then go on with the details that don't align. We simply have had two security concerns by highly placed officials. Both should have an honest investigation and security is an issue that can't be used as a partisan hammer. though clearly, I guess that's not gonna happen. I only compare them to highlight the hypocrisy of the partisan fanatics - certainly not all of you highly open and objective threadmates. you guys are so quick to jump on even the reminder of Hill's junk that you don't even acknowledge the excitement that this is one step closer to Donald giving up. ... hmmmmm, another equivalency for both teams to deny and get totally outraged when someone brings it up (but...but... with MY team it's different) Dems that rationalized Hillary's gross mishandling of classified info - I'm assuming they will give Trump a pass then....of course Reps that wanted Hillary to go to jail - I assume they are calling for Trump to serve time too????? I won't be holding my breath on either count. Maybe this will be sufficient to get Trump to resign or be kicked out? If so, we all win, neither of these horrible people get the job and maybe, just maybe, the two parties learn a lesson for next time..... (again, not holding my breath) ... 7. 7 months ago - ---Group A "Comey? That bastard has an agenda. Fire him" ---Group B "Comey? That guy is a hero for investigating stuff that agrees with my agenda" This month - ---Group B "Comey? That bastard has an agenda. Fire him" ---Group A "Comey? That guy is a hero for investigating stuff that agrees with my agenda" So - we have this guy who's job is investigating. He investigates a couple things and pisses off both teams at different times. he's out of a job. politics is an amazing thing. we are also good at fighting judges that espouse being legally pure and objective despite their personal biases people are weird ... 9. well, I'm not too popular with both sides for not worshipping the leadership of either team I'm good with that IMHO (just speaking for myself) - No surprise, Trump is in over his head and has a big mouth. I continue to think we're better off than with Hillary, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Quite the opposite. What's happening now is what I hoped for - He's having a hard time with his own team and, combined with the knee jerk NO from the other side, and that's slowing down any damage. I think these 4 years might actually turn out a benefit from making both teams re-evaluate in more than just the usual cosmetic fashion. Definitely the Reps have to recognize their fanatic fringe is bad for all.....the Dems maybe not as their blinders are thicker and they freakishly continue to blame others for their dramatic failure rather than own it and move away in fear from their own fanatics. ... 10. The fact that Hillary has and deserves less respect than Donald does NOT mean Donald has a measureable level of respect compared to any actual human. just because 0.0000001 < 0.0000002 doesn't delete the fact that 0.0000002 is pretty much 0 ((Donald did not win, Hillary lost it worse when an inanimate carbon rod would have beaten either of the 2. Live with it.)) as for 40% approval - .... 40% approves anyone without a D next to their name 40% approves anyone without a R next to their name it continues to be meaningless when it's just a conditioned response ... 11. Which is totally opposite to how I thought the internet would change society about 15 years ago. I honestly believe the internet is one of the most important inventions mankind has ever made - it's up there with the wheel and fire for me. The free, almost limitless access to information, news, training, opinions, education made me think that there was no excuse for people to be ignorant any more - we'd have a much more informed, rational society. Instead, with no training on how to parse good information from bad, the prevalence of deliberately manipulative data and the huan habit of gravitating towards information that you already have a bias for all seem to have made society progress in the opposite direction. Like you said, the western world seems to be getting more ignorant, less informed and more insular. My hoped for social Renaissance was dead on arrival. this and that ... 13. I'm a bit confused on this. I don't think the term "denied" is really the most truthful way to put it. He was most likely prioritized after someone else that followed all the rules, which are designed to give higher priorities to people that have a more successful chance with the transplant. There will always be more people that need a lung than there is a supply of lungs. You read some of these comments and can get the impression that people think there was an huge inventory of excess lungs and this guys was denied one of them - or they'd rather throw one away than give him one...... I'm no more outraged about this than I would be if a liver transplant was reprioritized after the potential recipient decided to have a couple drinks the week prior. That liver just ends up going to someone that showed better prep. I'd have pretty much the exact same response if the guy smoked tobacco too. You want a lung and you're putting smoke of any kind purposely in your body? Surely there's another person that also desperately wants to live that's trying harder and healthier to stay on track. One has to acknowledge that this is less about lack of sympathy for this guy, but more about caring and sympathy for the person that ended up with the lung. But you won't see an article about how that person's life was saved. Edit: I guess a lot of people made this point already. I just lost that with the ridiculous tangent the thead took. - the digressions in this thread are entertaining. ... 14. Overgeneralizations and simplified demographics. yay. Just what I hate about political discussions with the left and the far right. Individualism just continues to take arrows to the throat. There's certain aspects about social cooperation bias being driven by the environment, I just find that as a gross relationship it's ok, but can't be used to completely separate these types of artificial subgroups. But when examined closely, the groups overlap so much that it's still a reach to try and apply it without deeper considerations. Maybe years ago....but with today's access to information and news, it's going away. ... then I must be too, because I'm going back more than just one administration (and approx ~ 2 parties) in that comment (BV's been pretty good lately about noting the sins that both sides do, you jump to the normal Speaker Corner's normal antagonism a bit too quick here methinks - but I know that's the enjoyment for many here, so what can I say) ... Yet the only thing preventing the parade from going off without a hitch was the actions and threats of these two groups. 20. Simplified it for you...and I agree with both paragraphs. One might want to consider that the more fanatical elements of the party are extremely intolerant of anything that doesn't validate them. Not unusual, and not a left only type of thing. The disturbing part is that element is growing in leaps and bounds and it was wrong when it was just intimidation and shouting down people - now it's becoming a norm for it to go way beyond that even. Hell - you can agree with someone, but if you even say it slightly wrong, you can be attacked physically over a semantics tweak. Let alone have true and substantial debates over significant philosophical differences. This is a huge problem and clearly it's getting worse over time as it has moved from shouting down to actual violence. The inability to acknowledge within one's own party speaks loads. This will only encourage the same behavior from all groups out there of all beliefs. ... 22. I was going to comment on that part of Wendy's post. But I read this one and I don't think I have much to add that isn't already well said. edit: other than I don't really think the party "leadership" of each party truly believes they represent all factions. Cynical here, but I sure they realize they don't, nor ever intend to. They just have to convince the factions they do - even when their actions are clearly not representative. ... 23. But this is political discourse today. We don't acknowledge the point of the 'other' team (which already is imprecise because there is a continuum of views and a lot of overlapping), we don't acknowledge the intentions of the 'other' team. Being capable of intelligently and sincerely arguing the positions of the other side is considered a betrayal and weakness. (BTW - this paragraph defines for me what a respectable and thinking person should reach for when attempting to discuss important issues. My natural cynicism alone disqualifies me often.) A typical political discussion is belittling and dehumanizing anyone with a slightly different viewpoint, and then attempts to be clever by rationalizing every single viewpoint to discredit the other side. Sometimes the logical gymnastics are mind boggling - and people think that the most stubborn and twisted argument is a win rather than just finding a common truth where ever it ends up. Common understanding is considered weakness, rather 'win' at any cost is heralded. When the best "zinger" is what's applauded rather then the best balanced positions...... Or maybe I just spend too much time on social media...... ; ) ...
