  1. Some footage of him in the tunnel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BCZ-ve3u9w
  2. Always nice to see another South African on the forums Best of luck saving up for the AFF course. I saved up and went the AFF route but you could do static line if you can spare a grand or so a month for jumping, a few people at my DZ are doing that. ~R330 for static line jumps Hopefully see you in the sky one day.
  3. Lawn mover on the lowest setting Out DZO has been know to write witty messages like "PULL!" into the landing area, clearly visible from altitude
  4. Sweet looking rig I'm sure it will serve you for many years to come
  5. 6 skydivers+pilot must take a while to climb if you are not a sea level I suspect my DZ's 206 has one of the lower performance engines since if we have a full load of 5 jumpers we normally bail out at 8k agl (10.2k asl) to maintain a reasonable turn around Getting up to 10k for my aff jumps took ages with 4 jumpers Temps over 30 degrees C on the ground don't help either
  6. SA is a metric country but when it comes to skydiving everything is in feet and lbs Plus 10000ft sounds more impressive than 3000m to a whuffo Only time it is an issue is when working out WL i have to think more than I would like to get from kg to lbs
  7. Would be great if more people took this much trouble to help others getting into the same situations they found themselves in I have questioned an experienced jumper why they do not do control checks. Person in question just unstowed breaks and carved a little left and right to check all is good. This is going to be at the back of my mind before getting into bad habits like that I'v skipped control checks on one jump with a very long spot where I just made it back to turn upwind and land. Coach on the jump left his brakes stowed till final to get back, scary to think what could have happened if he ran into trouble at that point
  8. I think you should give it a shot I did a tandem 4 years before i started with my AFF. I was pretty underwelmed by my tandem experience though, was fun but i was not really scared and was less exciting I was still taken with the idea and decided to do my AFF and then reevaluate. As others have said being a passenger is boring compared to driving. Im now hooked I dont find it especially scary but its way more fun and exciting than being a passenger
  9. I'm still new to the sport but I was under the impression reserve steering toggles were always red by convention, the vid shows yellow toggles
  10. 100 = Naked 1000 = Pie filled with all kinds of nasties to the face Those are the traditions at my DZ I made an error of standing behind someone who just finished their 1000th early in my training.. never again My jumpsuit still smelt smelt of sour cream after 3 washes
  11. I have been lurking on the forums for a while so I decided it was time for a first post Name is Dylan and I'm 13 jumps into my new addition. I have been jumping at Durban Skydive Centre, South Africa. It's a small dropzone with a 206 so I am still waiting to experience the luxuries of 12+ grand jumps I started my AFF in Dec and finished it in Jan. Weather in summer here can be pretty consistant, sunny week days and rainy weekends, so its been difficult at times to get more jumps in Current goal is to get my A licence done, need to do 7 jumps with a coach performing various RW tasks and some CH exersises Dropzone.com has been pretty informative before, during and after the AFF. Looking forward to learning more Pic for the clicks
