  1. Pot, meet kettle Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  2. I'm pretty sure a lot of people can think for themselves and decide who they believe is at fault for the shutdown. Very much doubt the republican approval rating out of this is only because Obama brain washed everybody into thinking that. This is very much true for the middle ground or independent voters, who as far as I know, have a bitter taste in their mouth with regards to republicans after this shut down. At least most of the ones I know seem to feel that way, even ones that lean more to the right on the independent spectrum. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  3. I understand that most of these people were PO'd before Obama even took office. Before they even knew his policies and knew what he stood for. Those zebra's are not changing their stripes. Those are the voices you speak of for the most part, and they continue to kick and scream and get louder with anything and everything they can grab on to to scream over, even if they made it up, or are shown that it's false and just choose to go on and on about it anyway (even louder!)! Does it mean there are not some legitimately pissed off people who understand his policies and don't agree with him? Sure there are. And some of these people may have even supported him and voted for him in the past. I'm sure this happens with any president. Those are the voices I'm more interested in entertaining. The ones you're talking about are, for the most part, the crackpots that had diarrhea of the mouth before Obama even took office. I think most sane people are done entertaining their opinions and rhetorical talking points, IE: Obama is a muslim, etc. Trust me... I think people understand just fine
  4. I had to read this piece after this little snippet just to make sure it wasn't satire. Really? Thank the Tea Party for anti-war agenda? I thought it was the liberal/democrat/dirty hippies (in)famous for their 'make love, not war' mantra? I think most people, no matter what party you are, opposed getting into another war at this point. Definitely not just the tea party, and definitely not the tea party leading the opposition I think. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  5. I don't get how the words liberal/conservative even got brought up into this article. I'm pretty sure there is a mix of liberal and conservative overweight women who saw the picture and got irked, and equally, a mix that probably didn't give a shit. Don't see how its a lib vs. cons thing, or am I missing something? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  6. You have the dates of the community reinvestment act off. ***The budget battle that recently concluded temporarily was caused by teabaggers who decided to try to nullify a law that was duly passed by Congress and found to be Constitutional by a severely right leaning Supreme Court. And yet Obama does the same thing when it comes to gun rights. 222 years is longer than 2 BTW. You need history lessons. Again, just look at Obama's attack on the 2nd Amendment. I assume you have told Obama to leave the 2nd Amendment alone then? If you make me "invest" 15% of my salary for most of my life.... Yeah, I will try and collect as much "return" as was stolen from me. I'll make you a deal, you make it so I do not have to give my money away, and I will never draw from the pool. Deal? Or do you need people like me to support people like you? The defining characteristics of an LWL is someone who can't discern fact from fiction, and believes things that are patently ridiculous, like the former head of several large corporations does not know how to run a budget. Or how a guy that had a Masters from Harvard is somehow "stupid". You're making this apples to apples like Obama tried to shut down the government to get his way on gun laws. He did not do that. Not so. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  7. Ditto what others said- you pay for the plane ride, not the jump. I've come down once or twice I think at a visiting dz when it was a tiny tiny hole and I didn't know the area well enough to recognize where I was or if I was even close to the airport through that tiny tiny hole. Not worth it for me if I'm stressing out over things like that; the jump won't be fun anyway for me at that point. I'd rather ride the plane down wondering if I made the right call, kick myself for eating 25 bucks, and wish I was up in the air, vs. being in the air wishing I was on the ground. I've been to a few dz's where I see people get a pat on the back and a "hey, nice call," with the refund. That is very nice, but it is definitely never expected, IMO. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  8. You probably mean this simply as a statement of how adamantly you disagree with her stance on gun control. Maybe it's a way to "feel out the waters" where if you get some people to agree without really considering the statement too literally, you'll feel like you're in good company. Maybe you want people to feel compelled to defend her policies as though they're defending her life and in the process they'll say something stupid and you can jump their shit over it. You know what though, just... fucking... don't... okay? People read shit like that and think, "oh great, I guess single-issue-voting has devolved into single-issue-loss-of-humanity." and then that person stops listening to anyone who disagrees with her. I don't mean to suggest that speakers corner is supposed to be, or ever was, some intellectual nexus of political debate, but it doesn't have to be such a train wreck either. nice post shampoo. I doubt he will receive that message, but I thought it was pretty insightful. +1. Nicely said :) Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  9. Really? Over gun nonsense? ----------------------------------------------------- This cunt over my right to defend myself and my family? You betcha. You can call me what the fuck ever you want. Not only that but she is so butt ass ugly her picture could be used to ward off scary ghosts in the dark. wow... stay classy there Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  10. No one can tell the future, but if history is an indicator, they've probably handed the House back to the Democrats in the November 2014 elections. Radical splinter groups like the Tea Party do nothing positive in the long term. They can whine and moan, but unless they actually have the full majority of their party behind them, which in this case they never actually did, they only hurt the overall efforts of not just their own party, but everyone in the country and possibly even more far reaching as well. If the Republicans want to control things, they have to come back to the center and reject the nutballs. ^^This^^ . I really think the group of tea party reps that basically took hold and stomped all over the republican majority in this whole thing are really going to end up hurting the party. As an independent voter, who is looking for anything to win me over to any side, I have a bad taste in my mouth after seeing this shit show from them. I really hope this will motivate the rest of the republicans who are more moderate to stand up and not be stomped all over after this. I don't always think its the best idea to have one party running the show (white house, and both houses of congress), so I would like to see republicans try to rebuild a little and get more votes back their way. Hopefully things will be less divided in that situation as well.... everything is so polarized now adays! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  11. Hmmm...how conservative of you. You don't like someone getting something for free that you had to work for. Irony meter off the scale. Whats ironic about that? Since I'm an independent who is more fiscally conservative and socially liberal and all...... Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  12. I'll quickly point out that every poll I have seen agrees that it is the American People who do not want Obamacare. I'm undecided on where I stand regarding the Republican gamesmanship. Both parties do it routinely. Hard to throw stones when they all live in glass houses. Oddly, it doesn't seem to dissuade any of them. The real problem in my eyes is this: nobody is leading us toward a solution. Nobody is even discussing a balanced budget. For that matter, nobody is discussing passing a budget. They are only talking about passing stop-gap measures and borrowing more money. I'm against both. But I seem to a terribly small minority who thinks we should have a balanced budget and live within our means. Political games. Temper tantrums. Blame. Death. Doom. Destruction. Distraction worthy of a great illusionist IMO. I agree. Polls show that majority are not kosher with Obamacare. BUT....polls also show that even those who are against Obamacare agree that it is not worth a government shutdown over; or this is not the way to go about over turning the law. Hell, I don't even know if I'm 100% kosher with ACA, but I am 110% sure that I believe you don't shut down the government over something like this. Any side of the isle can't, because what is stopping any side from doing this in the future if it sets a president for it now? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  13. They do But they can’t get anything done because the Dems and its media lie about the intent. This forces the Republicans to defend themselves. And the childish Democrats scream about compromise Well, to the Dems compromise is give us what we want or we will call you name temper tantrum throwers And all the time it this President who is fucking over all of us Your next tantrum is coming when? Wouldn't it be nice if the Democrats would grow up and act like adults for a change? Then maybe they could get something done together Seriously? Dems and the president want gun safety laws. They didn't get the votes. Did they shut down the government over it when they didn't get their way even though the polls showed large support for such a measure? Seriously.... look me in the eye and tell me who is throwing the tantrum when they didn't get their way on this one. And who's paying the price? Yea, don't get me started on that. My paycheck was half of what it was supposed to be, and the next one will be $0 if we're in this for two more weeks. Let the crazy ass truckers come into town and protest that one person is at fault for this. It will be comical, because guess what-- the public overwhelmingly agrees that the blame is not just on the president. Congress's approval ratings are in the shitter. Good luck with holding up the people in DC, those who can actually still go to work and get paid, who are already full of their own angst and who know better than "this is all Obama's fault." I have a feeling they're not going to get the warm welcome they were hoping for. That, or this ends up like the 'million bikers' who went to protest, and ended up being a group big enough to blend right into the normal shitty traffic around the area. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  14. I'm pretty much piggybacking what others are saying here-- if you're going to concentrate on tunnel for the winter, then just stick with the stuff you'd need for that anyway. Helmet, goggles, and maybe even hold off on a shiny new suit until your rolling along a little better in the next few months. Use the tunnel suits and just beat the crap out of those for a while. When jumping comes around, the alti would probably be a smart purchase. Don't be in a rush to get all shiny new rig/canopy/aad stuff yet. Demo and rent a bit off of your A-license jump and find out what gear and canopy size you like and are comfortable with. Make sure to chat up your instructors about gear choices too.
  15. I made a case for the essential vs. non-essential issue in another thread. Basically, they assume the shut down is going to be very short term. Say, even a day. You have to look at is as what positions would have direct harm, or maybe even result in injury or death of citizens, if it weren't there? First one that pops to a lot of peoples minds is ATC. For planes to fly around safely, or at all, you need ATC without even a little break in service. I'm with the NWS. We protect lives and property. Weather doesn't stop if we do (as seen with the blizzard up in south dakota and a tropical system hitting the gulf coast this week). So, we're also 'essential.' My friend who works for the bureau of reclamation is non-essential this week so far. Does that mean her job is any less valuable than mine or that because she is not immediately essential, that she's not needed at all? Of course not. I think if you put this in a long term perspective (say months) then you'd have a lot more of these 'non-essential' jobs on the essential list. Nobody is going to be immediately put out if she's gone this week, but in the long term it would be a problem. In particular, her job deals with the water reservoirs, which includes the large resource up in the mountains that the entire San Francisco Bay gets their water from. As a Bay Area resident, I know I would like a civil engineer monitoring my main water source! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  16. I would say the last week I can sympathize with. It's not peoples fault there was a furlough and it's not their fault for being deemed 'non-essential,' so I feel like they shouldn't be punished. But from here on out, to announce they will get paid no matter what, then I feel like if the government is paying for service, then why not bring them back to work? Why are only the essential employees forced to work on an IOU and the non-essential employees have an IOU for continuing to stay home? If they're going to be paid, then get rid of this essential vs. non-essential b.s and just let everybody work on the same IOU promise of eventual retro pay. Doesn't make sense to me! And again, this is not the fault of the federal workerbees. This is a larger scope problem that has to be fixed in DC that controls what is happening in shut down status. This doesn't make sense, IMO. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  17. I have mixed feelings on this. I sympathize with the people who were negatively impacted by being placed on furlough status during the shut down. Personally, I have been at work every day since the weather service is deemed 'essential.' While I sympathize with the people who got an undeserved furlough, part of me also thinks it's not fair for their furlough to just turn into paid time off. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bitter that I had to be in work for all of these days and will end up getting paid just the same as the people who stayed home. My question with all of this is-- why the essential and non-essential statuses through all of this? If I had to show up to work and work on an IOU as an essential employee, why can't everybody just show up to work and work an IOU since they end up being paid anyway even if they stay home? This is exactly what happened in the 95' shut down too. Interested to see what others' thoughts are on this. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  18. I haven't looked up the numbers this morning, but weren't polls pretty much unanimously saying blame was shifted more towards the GOP on this one, particularly those members who are tea party republicans in the house? Like I said, I haven't looked at anything today or yesterday, so if those numbers are changing, then it is what it is, I guess. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  19. He's not the one trying to get votes in 2014. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  20. I have plenty of educated discussions with people from all over the political spectrum. I don't think it's ever impossible for anything in that respect. If you're having problems with EVERY liberal you talk to...... ever think that maybe you're the problem? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  21. And for me this is all what it comes down to-- even if you don't like the ACA, it seems that most people are agreeing they don't want a government shut down over it. They agree you do not hold the government hostage over this. The minority group going crazy with this from the GOP in the house are shooting themselves in the foot, and they're taking down the moderate republicans with them and driving away the independent and moderate voters they need to start winning elections again. A shame, really. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  22. I kind of wonder about this..... if Obamacare is really the big steaming pile of shit that the republicans say it is, then at this point after going through the supreme court and trying 42 times to get it repealed, just let it go through. Let it go through, let it blow up and be as bad as they've said, they get the huge satisfaction of "we tried to save your asses and I told you so," and then they'll clean up so many votes in the next election. It would be a win-win all around for them. And don't tell me that they are doing this for the good of the country, because any political party is going to also do what is good for them politically if it's a major win and/or major shift in votes in their direction, and this would be that for them. Seriously though, why not let it go through? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  23. I've thought about this a lot in the last few days. I work for the Weather Service. The protection of lives and property is deemed essential from our services. A friend of mine works as a civil engineer with the bureau of reclamation, and she is considered non-essential at the moment. She's starting to feel a little bad about that, and asking herself the same questions that you brought up in your response above. Does this mean her work is any less valuable than mine? No. But I take it to mean nobody is going to die or be put at a huge inconvenience this week if she is not in work for a couple days. Her daily tasks, projects, and work are all for the long term greater good, and not for immediate impacts, like the tropical system in the gulf, which could cause the loss of life and property if weather service forecasters weren't there to get warnings out and forecast the track for people living in the impacted areas. Non-essential for a brief period of time does not equal not needed at all in the long term. I'm not saying there isn't fat to trim from the federal workforce, because there is, but saying all non-essential positions must not need to exist at all because they're not immediately needed this week..... well, that's a little bit of a stretch, IMO. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  24. And the question is from a CNN rep-- I thought they were the liberal, biased, so far left you can't go anymore left and have pioneered the way for the liberal slant in main steam media now adays? Figured they only lobbed softball questions to democrats! Back on topic-- I watched the exchange yesterday. Obviously I think what he was probably trying to say did not come out correctly. It sounds harsh, but when they start picking and choosing what to fund and not to fund, I get what he is trying to say. He funds NIH, and somebody else is going to turn around and say "but what about us? We're hanging out to dry." Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  25. And if it ends up not being the biggest pile of shit like some people say it is? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
