Bought my first rig :D. Any thoughts?
-Joey- replied to FastRodriguez's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's pretty win. Funny, I just got a pretty sweet-looking rig too. If you're ever in my neck of the woods we'll have to do a photo op sometime. Skydiving is serious business -
Perceived coolness. I've never flown either. Skydiving is serious business

I think the word you're looking for is arbitrary, not random... Skydiving is serious business

Haha, you were in Shelton the same day I was I think. Btw check your PM :) Skydiving is serious business

I'm actually moving to MA in the fall so I'm a bit curious about this too :) anyone in MA have a preference between Jumptown and Pepperell? Skydiving is serious business
-
Yeah, although this guy said he is a rigger. Hard to imagine a rigger would jump ~12 times a year... I suppose there's no way to verify advertised jump numbers on a main though, is there? Skydiving is serious business
-
Yeah, freefly is what I want to get into, so I should probly pass. They also said the main is DOM '96 and has only 200 jumps, which doesn't sit right with my BS alarm... Skydiving is serious business

Someone on classifieds sent me this photo of their rig: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0z3N6KAjqGJMldxeXNpRk1oa1k/edit?usp=sharing (Use the mouse wheel to zoom in or click the "100%" button for full resolution) When zooming in, the main flap looks a little frayed and there are a few spots that look worn especially on the right leg pad. Is this anything I should be concerned about or is that considered normal? The DOM on the container is '96, according to the seller. Just want to make sure this is safe and not a death rig before buying. Thanks!! Skydiving is serious business

Pulse: Does it really pack smaller? What is the final verdict?

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for -
I didn't even know those existed. I'll have to spend some time on Google now Thanks! Skydiving is serious business

Pulse: Does it really pack smaller? What is the final verdict?

I emailed the seller of the purple rig and he said his price is firm Oh well. Safety IS my number one priority. I plan on buying as much safety as I can afford. Skydiving is serious business -
Too hot and uncomfortable; all I ever want to do when I land is get out of it as soon as possible. Skydiving is serious business

Pulse: Does it really pack smaller? What is the final verdict?
-Joey- replied to -Joey-'s topic in Gear and Rigging
Sigh... Lol... I would buy this rig in a heartbeat if it weren't purple: http://www.dropzone.com/classifieds/Detailed/Complete_Systems/Vortex2_PD_Sabre2_190_Decelerator_180_Cypres2_AAD_144345.html Why is it that every time I find the perfect rig for myself, it's either purple or pink? The sky gods have turned their hand against me or something. Skydiving is serious business -
Pulse: Does it really pack smaller? What is the final verdict?
-Joey- replied to -Joey-'s topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm not upsizing or downsizing anything; just browsing classifieds and trying to put a rig together (I've been on student gear until now). Sure a bigger reserve would be nice and so would an AAD but money is my primary consideration -

I'm trying to figure out if a Pulse 190 will fit in a Mirage G3 M2. Thanks Mirage, for not publishing container volume sizes. Also thanks PD, for not publishing pack volumes. You guys are my heros. The sizing guide (http://www.miragesys.com/sizing-guide/) for the M2 says it can fit other PD canopies that are 170 square feet. So if PD's advertising claims are true then I should be able to fit a Pulse 190? (In case it matters, the M2 will have a 143 PDR and no AAD.) What have others' experiences been with pack volume in the Pulse? Anyone actually successfully fit it into an M2? Thanks in advance! Skydiving is serious business -
@labrys and evan Good points on the tracking issue - that didn't even occur to me. I was mainly thinking about loose clothing covering up handles and whatnot. Anyway I wouldn't go suitless doing RW. But I'm more interesting in freeflying anyway. Skydiving is serious business
-
But naked jumping is safer! No clothes are going to get in the way of your handles. Well being in a formation with a bunch of naked girls might cause me to forget about altitude awareness for a while Altimeter check? Oops totally forgot about that... Skydiving is serious business
-
Not exactly what I had in mind Photos are nice, though. Skydiving is serious business
-
So I decided I pretty much hate jumpsuits and am determined to never wear one again when not doing RW. What are the safety implications of this? is it just a matter of making sure to not wear too loose of clothing and then you're good? Skydiving is serious business

Sigh... at least they tried. Skydiving is serious business

Okay I get it. If I downsize too quickly I'm for sure going to die. Point taken. Skydiving is serious business -
Ya never know, the falcons are on a losing streak right now :) Skydiving is serious business
