  1. I've had numerous whuffos ask me, "Do you have a death wish?" My reply is always, "On the contrary, I have a LIFE wish!" I've been enjoying life so much more since I started skydiving. Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.
  2. Oh, I have a very keen interest in my equipment - I want to know the in's and out's of all of it and as soon as my reserve is due for a re-pack, you can betcha I'm going to ask to watch. I just don't like packing! Especially this brand new (9 jumps) Sabre2 210 zero-p! I feel like I'm mud wrestling with a pig and the pig enjoys it. I've watched some folks pack and they get their canopy folded up oh-so-neatly and just slide it into the bag with nary a grunt or groan while I almost always end up with a giant ball of crap about 6 times bigger than the bag, all the while turning the air blue with cuss words, sweat dripping from every pore on my body and strongly considering setting fire to the whole damn mess and just doing a ash scatter dive on my next jump with a rental rig! I eventually learn how to do it efficiently, but for now, if I packed for myself, I'd only make 2 loads a day - the breakfast load and the sunset load. 3. Hey man, this truck is a Classic and you are in the process of Restoring it!! The little punks screwed up YEARS of work on it!! Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.
  4. I never pack for myself. I know how to do it - packing (and jumping your own pack job) is a requirement for the A license - but I HATE it! My first student pack job took me about 3 hours and then just as I was gearing up to jump it, the winds kicked up and students were put on hold. Since it was rather late in the afternoon and I have a 2+ hour drive home, I left. On my next visit to the dz, I had to pack again (only took about an hour this time) and jump my pack job. Passed my requirement, but swore never to pack again. About a month ago, I bought a used rig and bought a brand new zero-p canopy. I tried to pack it. That new zero-p stuff is slipperier than owl shit. It took me about 6 hours to get that damn thing in the bag. And I didn't have the nerve to jump that pack job so as soon as I got to the dz I marched right over to the packers and had one of them re-pack it. I had some satisfaction at least in watching a professional packer work up a sweat trying to get that thing packed. I keep promising myself that I'm going to start packing. Someday perhaps.... 6. I'm on the same sheet of music with ya there. ANNUAL tests - not this every 4 or 5 year crap. Too much can happen even in a year, let alone a longer period of time. That was the case with my father-in-law when he renewed his license about a year ago (we tried to get DMV not to renew him - no help from them of course) and they renewed the license of this then 89 year old man for 5 freakin' years!!! Now my dad is 77 years old, and there is no doubt in my mind that he would pass even the strictest of driving tests with flying colors. He is in excellent health and as all his wits about him and I feel totally comfortable riding with him. Well, maybe not TOTALLY comfortable - he does have a bit of a lead foot Something needs to be done to get some of these older folks off the road, but the AARP is a pretty powerful lobby at both the state and federal level, so I doubt anything will be done anytime soon. It's going to take a lot more than 9 people getting killed. Maybe once one of these old-timers plows into a day-care center and kills a few children. Sad to think that is what it will probably take. 7. Our family has been trying to get my 90 year old father in law off the streets for several years now. Do you think we get any help from the State? Hell no! The old man's got diabetes so bad he can't feel his feet. He won't wear his seat belt OR his glasses. He's had 4 accidents in the past 6 months (no one hurt in any of them, thank God). On the last one he hit the gas instead of the brake (gas peddle stuck according to him) and plowed backwards about 100 yards through a parking lot wrecking two other cars, a small tree and shortening his car by about 2 feet after he hit a building. The cop on scene and I conspired to get his license from him. For some reason the police can't take someone's license, but this cop told my FIL to give his license to me. Damned if that old fart didn't find his way to DMV and get a replacement! We've even tried to get his insurance company to cancel him, but they won't. And now, with 4 wrecked cars sitting in his yard, he just bought a $350 special and will get behind the wheel again as soon as he can. Numerous calls to DMV, Police, Insurance, Senior Services, etc., etc. and no one seems to care about getting this time bomb off the road. 9. Having just recently jumped with both, I find I prefer the Velcroless. I find them easier to release requiring just a straight down pull, while the Velcro type required a peel and pull motion. Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

    PC Load Letter?

Thanks for the tip! Haven't seen that movie, but any excuse to drink beer is a good one. I have a feeling I'm gonna see myself in that movie (did 25+ years in the office equipment biz), so I guess being a little drunk is gonna help Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

    PC Load Letter?

Are you talking about an error message on your printer? If you are, then the problem is that you're trying to print a letter size document (8 1/2" x 11") but your printer thinks it has a different size loaded. Some printers have sensors on the paper cassette telling the printer which size paper is loaded while on other printers it's a menu thing. Check you printer's configuration page. It will tell you if a paper size other than letter is sensed or selected. Either change it with the menu or make sure the paper stops in the cassette are set correctly (snug up against the paper). 15. For someone like me who HATES to pack, I like the idea. I wasn't able to find a price for it anywhere. Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.
  16. I've read a few posts here about what happens after a new jumper is "off of student status" but does not yet have their A license. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in the handling of this between the various training programs as well as from one dz to another. When I got off of student status, I felt like the instructors dropped me like a hot potato and that I almost had to beg to get a few minutes of an instructors time. I'm somewhat of a shy person so it was a little difficult for me to get in someone's face and demand attention. So I'm curious to hear from some of the instructors out there. What do you do? Do you ensure that a student is looked after until they get the A license, or are they just sort of thrown to the wolves? Do you work with a student all the way or do you hand them off to another instructor for the next part of the training? Do you keep tabs on the students license requirement card or is that left to the student to make sure each requirement gets signed off? I'd also like to hear some pros and cons about another question. Would a student be better off if taken all the way from first jump to the A license by one instructor or is exposure to several instructors better? Thanks all, Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

  18. My son and I started skydiving together not quite one year ago. My first tandem was a father's day gift from him. Since then we both continued training, but at different dz's (he lives in Florida, me in North Carolina). Just this past weekend I took a short vacation to Florida and we finally got to make our first jumps together and it was an awesome experience! He's coming up here over July 4th weekend for more family jumps and I can't wait! While watching a video of one of our jumps, a couple of other young skydivers commented on how they would love to jump with their dads. 19. All I can say is that this is one great place to skydive. Nice large landing area and a staff full of wonderful folks long on encouragement and ready and eager to answer questions, help or just to shoot the breeze with. (Just be careful about mentioning a "first" as they're pretty strict about the beer rules!!!) I just can't wait to go back there! Many thanks to Cindy, Chris, Charlie, Lee, Tom, Marcus and all the other super folks who made my visit something to remember. School of Human Flight ROCKS!!!

  21. A man goes into a toy store to buy a doll for his daughter and asks the clerk, "Does Barbie come with Ken?" The clerk shakes her head sadly and says, "No, Barbie comes with GI Joe. She fakes it with Ken" Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.
  22. In a word, RELAX! In my case that was the hardest thing to do. First off I was tense just from the very idea of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, but I was also trying to arch with my belly and not my hips. My 7th & 8th jumps were disasters!! (I still had fun though!)While practicing on the ground one day I noticed that it was much easier to relax my entire body when I arched from my hips. Try squeezing your butt cheeks together. My next and most subsequent jumps have been great - at least from a stability standpoint. I won't get into all the other problems I've had and am having. Good luck and have fun! 25. My condolences as well. i too had to say good-bye to my best friend of 12 years about 3 years ago. He had a doggie heart attack and saved me the pain of having to make that awful decision that I knew was coming. I share your tears tonight. On the matter of getting another dog, I swore at the time that I wouldn't do it. I felt that if I got another do I was being "unfaithful" to my friend - a silly choice of wording, but I just don't know any other way to put how I was feeling. And I was being selfish by not ever wanting to experience that pain of loss again. But someone explained to me that I can never replace my friend, but there's nothing wrong with making a new friend. So it was just a few months later - the house being way too quiet - when I brought another furry friend home and I love him just as much. And then not long after that, a stray wandered up and I gave him a home too. I still miss and cry for my old friend. Your story got me going again tonight. But sharing my life with two loving dogs was the best decision I made.
