  1. So the wife was away and I made spaghetti.... No bib in sight, so I did what any good father would do.... had him eat in diapers! My wife didn't have as much fun with this than Alex and I did... See attached Marz
  2. OK, I didn't even finish reading all the replies in this thread, because I get the jist.... My two cents: I've that that "bad feeling" three times. Once was on a really rushed night jump, the other was on a sketchy wind day, the other, the weather looked theatening. I decided not to jump twice out of the three. THE RESULTS: Night Jump (didn'[t go): All four jumpers out of the Cessna landed out. This is a NIGHT JUMP.... Out is NOT GOOD. One sprained ankle on one of the jumpers. It took us about an hour to find him. Sketchy wind day: I went despite the feeling. I had a great jump with my buddy, we split and opened. The winds kept shifting on me and I was getting really nervous. I overshot the landing, hit a draft, brainlocked and landed with no brakes on my tailbone. Two compressed vertebrae took me out of any activity for close to six months. Sketchy weather day (didn't go) : see http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=168528;search_string=Gatineau;#168528 for more info as to the results of that load. Carlos, the guy that broke both his legs took my spot at the last minute.... I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but this sport has FAR too much ego at times. I got alot of ribbing for backing out on these jumps when I did it, but after the fact, I also got alot of handshakes congratulating me for trusting my gut.... That is all. Marz

    Packing your rig

I' m just curious to find out how many people pack their own rig and how many people use a packer and why... I used to suck at packing so I used a packer alot, but that's somewhat frowned upon at our DZ so now I pack myself preety much all the time, except when I'm at a boogie and jumping 5+ times a day... What about you guys? Marz
  5. This whole thread, specially Billvon's story has me cracking up at work..... Thanks for brightening my day!!!! Marz
  6. I sooooo understand!!! I work for the Ombudsman at Canada Post. They send us the REALLY BIG assholes.... Makes you see humankind with a little less compassion... Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?

  9. Clowns. I am deathly afraid of clowns. And the paralysis thing scares me alot too!
  10. ROFL... OK, you got a point there about Burton and his boys... But leave the Barenaked Ladies out of this!!!!! I happen to have partied with them and they're some of the funniest, most down to earth people you'll ever meet! And I stand corrected regarding Rush's existence....
  11. I though it was Rush??? OH for the love of GOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!! what have we done?????? At least if Rush reunited, it would beat having to watch that fat ass Burton Cummings and his cronies sing on Parliament Hill every second Canada Day!!!!
  12. ... that says that Canadians MUST love the Tragically Hip? I know the CRTC and all forces Canadian content on the radio, but honestly, to me, every song other than "new Orleans is sinking" sound like nails on a chalkboard!!!! They're like an annoying weed that just won't die and they're still celebrated as a great band and continue to get heavy airplay although there's a hundred Canadian bands waiting to be discovered out there. Should I turn in my Canadian passport and move to another country? Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?
  13. I just hope he didn't include a "pool scene" in Harry Potter. That would just bring it to a WHOLE different level!!!! Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?
  14. HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I just got a call and I have to be at Head Office (across the street) in half an hour! Apparently I am one of two candidates for the position and they want me to meet the Director. I am PHSYCHED!!!!!!!!!!!! Please please sned big vibes my way!!!!!!! Marz
  15. I was told about the headache side effect. That is part of my worries because I can't afford alot of time off. I'm usually good with that stuff, but I don't think I could handle too much time away from work... It's a very close call on the poll so far.... Marz
  16. OK, So I got a call the other day from my neurologist's office. They're very involved in MS research and asked me if I wanted to participate in a medical project. They're looking to see how a particular protein affects the progession of MS and need volunteers with relapsing-remitting MS to study this. The downside is that I need to donate spinal fluid, which involves a spinal tap... I've never had a spinal tap and I heard they're very uncomfortable. I don't think I will be compensated for any of this, it's basically to help research. So my question is would you volunteer for the good of science in this situation? Please help me make a decision here.... Marz
  17. I'm still trying to figure out if I can get my ass out there! I'll let you know! Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?
  18. Damn, I would love to go... If I did could someone pick me up from O'Hare on friday evening? Marz
  19. A friend of mine was in a band and they were playing this really tiny club in my home town. Some guy kept yelling at them to play the "fire engine song" and my bud got curious enough to stop the set and ask him what the F%^& he meant.... So the guy goes "Ya know! HENDRIX!" and he starts singing "Smoooooke eating Walter, The fire engine guy..."" Now I can't hear "smoke on the water" without cracking up laughing Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?
  20. Thanks for the info Chris!
  21. That's the plan!!!! It's out of my hands. Do you think posting on DZ.com while at work passes as a criminal offense?
  22. let's just say that in 1990, I took up residence for approximately four months in a medical institution geared to the er.... rehabilitation of persons with a propensity to abuse mind altering substances... It wasn't court ordered or anything but it was paid for by the provincial ministry of health, so I'm pretty sure it's gonna show up... I might have a few balck marks as a juvenile too. Nothing I got charged for, but I was definitely on the radar for a few years there... I don't know if any of that stuff matters, really. They probably want to make sure that I have not ties to the middle-east or criminal organizations, etc... The shitty part is that they're probably going to grill my close friends. They did it to my wife when a friend of hers was going for clearance.
  23. So it's a done deal. Loooong ass interview though, a good hour and a half. I guess that could be a good sign... The job is for a position in Corporate Security for the Canadian Post Office. My only possible hiccup at this point is security clerance. They're asking for a "top secret" level and they'll be going back 20 years... I hope I don't have any skeletons in my closet that will come out and haunt me....
  24. Hey all... I have a job interview for a new position in half an hour. Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted Marz

    Coming to Canada!

OK, I' try to answer some of your questions. Other Canadians can correct me if I'm wrong.... Skydiving in Vancouver- I would check the dropzone websites. In Ontario, we spend between $30-$35 CND per jump. The Canadian dollar is (was?) about at par with the Aussie Dollar. Each DZ has its own requirements for Cypres use, but I haven't heard of one that requires and RSL. Most DZs in Canada are CSPA affiliated, but depending on the knowledge/level of paranoia of the DZO, you should be able to get away with using your current license. Lots of Yanks come here and jump on USPA licenses and vice-versa, although I've had to pay for a temporary USPA license one year when I went to Sebastian. For the car thing, the Free Trade Agreement does allow for cars purchased into the US to cross into Canada, but it's a bit of a hassle. I would contact the Canadian Government to get the low-down on that stuff. A friend of mine does it alot though and once you know the gig, it isn't too bad, if the car is not too old and in good shape. Chances are you're going to have to get the car safetied and emmissions-tested before you are allowed to register it in BC. However, given the weather in Vancouver as well as the amount of backpackers/tourists/transients, finding a vehicle there should not be that difficult. Hope this helps! Marz
