  1. Hey Kallend, bet you can't even name the worse mass school murder in this country or the weapon of choice. Happened in 1927 by a farmer / politician, Andrew Kehoe, in Bath Township, Michigan and explosives was his preferred method. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster
  2. You sure you want to stick that statement? And why compare us to only similar cultures and similar states of economic development as you put it? I can tell you why cause it makes us look worse than we really are. While the United States has the highest level of gun ownership per capita in the world, its rate of gun homicides, about three per 100,000 people, is far lower than that of Honduras, the country with the world's highest gun homicide rate (82.1 gun murders per 100,000 people). And according to a 2011 study done by the UN of the 20 most murderous countries in the world the United States didn't even make the list. http://www.businessinsider.com/1homicidal-countries-2011-11?op=1 There's a link to the UN's report in this article. The Washington Post on the other hand took that same report and and did exactly what you said to do, compare us to similar countries. Got that spin thing going on don't ya know. I think I'll take the UN's word before I would the Washington Post's. Leave it to certain media outlets to try and spin it though into something it's not instead of actually reporting on what the UN's report actually said. Heck even Mexico didn't make the top 20 #20. 3. Between the classifieds here and this group on FB you should be able to find a good deal if you decide to buy a used rig. https://www.facebook.com/groups/SkydivingGear/ Also keep an eye on jumpers at your DZ in the 100 - 300 jump range. They tend to buy rigs that instead of jumping it for all it's worth they get in a hurry to downsize and they need the cash from selling to go towards a newer rig. I know someone who downsized 6 times before hitting 500 jumps. And let every skydiver you're in contact with on a regular basis know you're looking. You never know what you might run across. The rig I have now I actually found when I wasn't looking. Another jumper knew I wasn't happy with what I had and wanted something similar to their rig. One day out of the blue they called me and said hey I'm getting a complete new rig. I'm about to put my old one up on dropzone but thought you might want first dibs on it.
  4. Did your rig ever turn up? Hope you caught the bastard.
  5. No need for an answer here. Just talk to PD. 825 Microline is the preferred line set for that canopy and what is on it now, came from them that way. They ran the Ser # on it.
  6. And so the next question..... PD 525 Dacron or PD 825 Microline? We're only talking $40 bucks difference between the two from PD. $190 (Dacron) vs $230 (Microline) So I'm not worried about the price. Just want what's best for the canopy. And I know nothing about line sets.
  7. Thanks for all the good info. Probably looking at a new line set for now.
  8. Any thoughts on the Icarus Safire 2 vs the Sabre 2?
  9. Not a student. Been jumping this canopy for years. Just never have really messed with it except for one brake line adjustment. On no wind days I just grab a wrap of brake line around my hands and deal with it.
  10. I don't feel uncomfortable going to the recommended wing loading for it. But that's going to mean a weight belt or a lot of visits to the donut shop and I'm trying to lose weight as it is now. And I really don't need a weight belt on during a skydive. I can fall like a rock with no help at all.
  11. Yeah there are no cross ports /valve systems between the cells on the Crossfire II. Probably why they recommend a little bit of wing loading on them. I'm loading around 1.26
  12. Less than 400. But the canopy and line-set are 10 yrs old. I think the brake lines are stretching on it too. They have been adjusted once, maybe not enough. I can still get a stall out of it at deployment altitude but barely.
  13. Which canopy has more flare control and smoother landings? Crossfire II (189) vs Sabre II (190) I've been jumping a Sabre II 190 for about 7 years. And even now sometimes it's like it just doesn't slow down upon landing even though my wing loading is only around 1.26 On heading opens? very rare under the Sabre II as well. Anyone got an opinion on this?
  14. The HypEye with it's different indicators is the most advanced LED system for a GoPro I have seen. But I went with something a little simpler. My GoPro is now in one button mode, hit the power button and it's instantly recording video. So in single button mode with this plugged into it - http://www.cam-do.com/GoProLED.html I don't have to take my helmet off or ask someone am I blinking? Hit the power button and the LED comes on I know I'm recording.
  15. My brother suffers from aspergers so I might understand your post a little more than others. I wish he could experience skydiving at least once. He has weight issues as well and so for now it's not even a possibility. For me it's therapeutic just for different reasons. And I don't get to do it anywhere as much as I use to or as much as I'd like. When I get on the airplane I'm thinking of the jump, doing safety checks, etc... But there's still this connection to the world. When I leave the plane it's like I have left this world and all of it's problems. I guess you could call it an escape, even like a drug. But when you leave the plane you have no time to think about anything but the task at hand. And for me it is a relief to be in that position if only for a moment.
  16. Wow, I'm glad you survived holding your breath Let's write a book about it, get a publisher and go on a national tour. We can out do that old Prince
  17. LMAO, classic. And to think some people think the French are assholes. So what does that make me for not only finding this hilarious but very well written too
  18. What are you doing? Loading them through the pilot's door on an Otter? If a tandem student is close enough to stick their hand in the prop there's a problem bigger than a camera strapped to their hand.
  19. Wow she really is a piece of work. I guess she missed the part of science class about refraction of light and how water works like a prism.
  20. I just wanted to read up on DB Cooper. Didn't realize that this thread was going to be full of a bunch of fighting.
  21. She's also complaining about cargo planes at 2am http://youtu.be/LukvyGa2vmQ
  22. I thought this got settled awhile back, guess not. Be sure to go "Like" the page to support our fellow skydivers. https://www.facebook.com/CitizensForNoisySkies
