  1. I'd give them all the room they need, and then some, to pull the PC themselves. The PC might even come out on its own, as happens in the video. I would not take it on myself to pull their PC, and insert myself into their horseshoe as well. Johan. I am. I think.
  2. Are you sure those are the pull priorities you were taught? In that order? I suggest you take some of your own advice. And maybe work on your people skills and your spelling. Johan. I am. I think.
  3. I have had this situation on hand once. I voted with my feet, eventually. One person can ruin a place. Johan. I am. I think.
  4. This is the big one of course, why I cannot recommend a Pulse or a Sabre2 at 28 jumps (no, I didn't vote). Having it in the closet while recovering from an accident means you can't actually use it. Might happen, might not. But getting that Sabre2 is not stacking the odds in your favour. Johan. I am. I think.
  5. Why not a Sabre2 or a Pulse, care to motivate? Just curious, is all. I do not have extensive experience on Sabres 2 or Pulses. I *do* on the Silhouette, and PD designed it for more or less exactly this audience - keeping a novice with aspirations happy. The Pulse was designed as the step between the Silhouette and the Stiletto, I believe. The Sabre2 has a much longer recovery arc and is in my opinion not suitable for novices. PD says it is, up to a wingload of 0.9. Try selling that to our OP. I jumped a Silhouette 170 @ 1.3 for almost 500 jumps. I learned a lot under it. The canopy has that much potential. I jumped a 240 @ 0.9 just two weeks ago (OK, it was marked "Navigator". they're identical). It was amazing how much fun it was to fly, and it delivered me to the ground, slightly downwind, just where and how I wanted. If you can fly, you can fly this canopy. You don't need a Pulse. Or a 1.4 wingload. Not going to argue you. Tastes vary. (You may have been spoilt by being exposed to overly high wingloadings too early.) Johan. I am. I think.
  6. Hang it by the tail, then climb into each cell with a soft brush. Yes, it will take time. Then sell it, or put it in a closet, and find something more appropriate to jump for now. (Or just sell it with the sand in it.
  7. Do you have the most recent Java version installed? Can't find it on Klaus' website offhand, but seem to recall that being a prerequisite. 1.6.0.14, I think. Johan. I am. I think.
  8. Black. Royal blue grippers on left arm and right leg, dark grey ("silver"
  9. 27 jumps? Get a Silhouette. In an appropriate size, ie talk to your instructors. Johan. I am. I think.
  10. The JumpTrack software is not compatible with OSX. You could run it in multiboot or Parallels or something. Paralog is compatible with OSX and with ProTracks. All of this according to published documentation, not first hand experience. Johan. I am. I think.
  11. Another thing we don't get here. Not saying that's good or bad. (Have to have a 1000 jumps to fly XB in NL.) If it's not a problem, it's not a problem. I (heart) the reasoning here. Goodness, I have to work at enjoying the popcorn this time. Johan. I am. I think.
  12. [gets popcorn - settles in] This oughta be good. Johan. I am. I think.
  13. Build on the proximity flying. Why would you be base every time? Can you brush endcells with different people, different canopies, different sizes, different wingloads? Try the high H&P and playing with a cloud. But if canopy flying doesn't float your boat, learn to be safe at it and enjoy the freefall. Just don't downsize, and don't swoop. I love flying, wingsuits, big canopies, small canopies, flight simulators, anything. But backflying isn't for me. Why would you be the same? We all have our preferences, don't we? Johan. I am. I think.
  14. From the job description: i.e. we can send you anywhere anytime. From your profile: No you don't. J/K , sounds like a dream job for the right guy or gal indeed. Seriously though, a PhD, rigger, AFFI, TI, SLI, Pro, S&TA, oh and a driver's license. Wait, and maintain the same physical standards as the military parachutist corps. They don't just want everything, they want Superman! And they're offering 60-80k? Is the crisis that bad, are the benefits that good or is 60k that much over there? My hat's off to the they pick. Johan. I am. I think.
  15. Even the friend with over 200 S/Ls was a skydiver on exit. The military guys who exit on their back - maybe they aren't skydivers. But the rest of us are flying the exit, at least. OTOH I should sincerely hope not *one* skydiver forgets to be a parachutist from opening to landing. There is *no* excuse for skydiving for the freefall and then not paying attention to the parachuting part - the 'whatever gets me down' mentality. If you really truly want that, malfunction rates on rounds are a lot better than on squares. I dare you. (generic, plural you.) Me, I'm BOTH. (Rock on Kallend!) And I can fly! (Wingsuits rock too!) Silly poll Tuna. Didn't vote. Johan. I am. I think.
  16. OK, so you don't speak the Queen's English after all. Hey, at least you're not a Yank! From your profile, I just had no way of knowing .. Ellipticals have their habits. But all ellipticals have those I guess. Crossfires, Pilots, they're almost square. (I said almost! Relatively speaking, they are.) If turning is easy while flying, it's easy during opening. But there are no shortcuts; more elliptical wings have better L/D, less elliptical wings have more directional stability. It's always a trade-off. Interesting how the Dutch rules are being exported informally already. I guess we can start the self help group for people who are afraid they'll be exported formally now .. (Oh, if you want to tell someone he needs 500 jumps to fly a Stiletto, wave the old version of the rules at him. One less category, 25/100/500/1000 instead of 25/100/400/700/1000. 500 was split in 400 and 700, mainly. You can jump a Stiletto? Here's a Katana .. No more of that. I don't know if that's worth having a 400 jump wonder having a go at a Stiletto already though. ) Johan. I am. I think.
  17. What? You're actually listening? You were supposed to die! Seriously, I expected another student to maybe, maybe not make it into the Incidents forum. I could not be bothered to write a personalised rant again, just knowing here was another one that was not going to listen. You proved my cynicism wrong. Thank you.
  18. It's everything the Stiletto is except for the short recovery arc. It's a better Stiletto than a Stiletto.
  19. Packing. If they're really too young for that, they can still be pack weights. Johan. I am. I think.
  20. you want to cover the spot, the exit, the "formation" even if not slot-specific, flight plan (direction, distance, "efficiency"), break-off procedures (key, altitude, direction), opening altitude. for novices, you may need to go into more detail, and also talk a little about tracking itself - body position, steering, navigating. no briefing is complete without a mention of what to do when all goes to hell. and always ask for questions. (if it's a bigway with a debrief, decide if you're packing first debriefing later, or the other way around.) wingsuit or atmonauti organisers may have insights - the disciplines are similar. Johan. I am. I think.
  21. I second that. One day, before boarding the plane, I told myself I was going to MAKE myself think about crap from life while in freefall. Well, on the ride up, with the stuff that happens (we all know what that is)... I completely forgot and I remembered when I had landed. +1 I'm happy in freefall. And I like flying. Johan. I am. I think.
  22. [gets popcorn. sits down.] Good luck Bobby. You'll need it. Beachbum, PD say you can fly a Silhouette 150 as a novice, if you're under 112#. (I actually know one such person. Yes, I was scared to break her.) Aerodyne may just not have test pilots that light .. Johan. I am. I think.
  23. How much beer for a BMCI rating title straight off AFF? Inquiring minds want to know .. Johan. I am. I think.
  24. Sounds more like he's talking chassees (sashays for you 'Merkins) on base, not 180s on final. Which is the correct way to prevent OP's problem. If I'm high on final, I continue to fly my parachute and will probably have to walk farther than I planned. Except that one time when there was no more field in front of me. And not enough room and altitude to turn really. I flared. And then I PLFed from 10 or 20 foot or something. Stood up, brushed off the ego, waved to the spectators, cursed the videoman. It happened alright. Johan. I am. I think.
