Recommended Posts

hello everyone, i have been jumping with just a video camera for quite some time now and i am thinking of adding a still camera. i have a sony alpha 300 i use for work and was wondering if any has jumped a sony alpha, and what bite or tongue switch i would need since i dont believe it has the same plug as a cannon or nikkon.

Hi,

I use a alpha 700, it works perfect. I use a self build remote control. I don´t think there´re bite or tounge switches out there like for cannon or nikkon but you can easily build your own from a Sony remote RM-S1AM.
hope this helps a bit.

Regards, Martin

You're better off jumping a Canon, and if you need the Sony for work you may not want to risk it jumping. If you get it free and can damage it, you could try it but most of the skydiving world jumps Canon and Nikon, which have been proven to work, last long and the switches and stuff can be gotten ready-made.

nice set-up
providing that the remote wire is eventually run inside the liner of the helmet, then out through the shell to connect into the camera body..

you may also want to consider a 'disconnect plug' somewhere between your hand and your helmet.....

this way you can don the helmet,,, and then connect up ,, prior to jumping..
It also will allow for a breakaway point, between you and the helmet,,, in the rare case where you have to shed the helmet...during an emergency...
I had success with a SoNY DSC-V1, which had a wired remote.
running the cord inside the sleeve of the jumpsuit worked well, especially with the additon of a 2 piece "molex connector",, located on the wire,, about a foot below chin level...
plug the ends together, stow the connection inside your jumpsuit,, and you're good to go...

ps,, i now use a NIKON (top mounted )
but sometimes also add the V1, onto the forehead of my helmet

skydive safely.

I jump with Sony Alpha 200. You can see photos here:

1. I bought bite switch for Canon:
http://conceptusinc.com/biteswitch.htm

2. And bought remote for Sony cameras - Sony RM-S1AM
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsa-remote-releases/rm-s1am

And then cut both and made one switch. There are just three wires, very easy to join...

I have the Alpha 300, and jumped it for the first time this weekend. It seems to work just fine. I bought a remote cable from one of the chinese sellers on Ebay. Cost me $4.00. I just cut the cable and made my own hand switch after that. Because of the half depressed/fully depressed difference in the button positions, when you make your own switch with a two point contact, the focus is always active.

I jumped it on a 4 way, and it worked fine. I then tried jumping it with my wingsuit, but didn't find my hand switch worked so well with using the gripper on the wingsuit. I need to work that part out better. I don't really want something in my mouth though.

Hello friends. I use Sony alpha 100, the first sony digital reflex, in free fall. I bought the original plug(remote control) and i adapted it to my mouth. I bit it. I like sony quality a lot, altough i know cannon & nikkon are more sucsesful.
take a look at some of my shots;

I have a Sony A100, and the only thing I can add here is that last time I needed that connector, I bought a china made remote from ebay for about $15 bucks shipped... much cheaper than the minolta one.
