  1. And you can't possibly forget Tim Bernard as the epic 'Frankenass'
  2. Unbelievable. Four years gone by. Time goes by so fast. Miss your smile Ahmed
  3. I don't think I've ever heard the wingstrut called a 'diagonal handrail' before. That's a new one for me! I think I'm going to use it!
  4. I love the Skies Call trilogy! I've had all three books fanned out on my coffee table at home, ever since I bought the coffee table! (thanks for letting me 'borrow them' dad!)
  5. Well... nothing's been built yet, so that's plus! I'm sure the owners of Skydive Burnaby can give you a much better answer if you ask them, but from my understanding, the township has put the construction of the turbines in moratorium, meaning 'postponed until further review'. So the waiting game goes on.
  6. Wow... three years gone by today, April 27th. We'll never forget that smiling face. Still miss you a ton, my friend.
  7. What get me is all the 'bank heist' movies where the bad guys dive into a pyramid of gold bars, begin to stuff them into duffle bags, and effortlessly toss a few bags over thier shoulders! Those big bars are over 30lbs each! There's no way in hell!
  8. Posted on behalf of the skydivers of Skydive Burnaby... Hello friends, We were recently informed that there are a series of Industrial Wind Turbines slated to be installed only 1700 meters from our landing area and we're seeking your support in having these mammoth machines and their parent company seek alternative locations. Standing over 450 feet high, and on the exact wind line that prevails from April through October, these machines will, without doubt, be on the mind of every jumper here at Skydive Burnaby. WE WOULD LIKE TO STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO VIST OUR WEBSITE, AND PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ AND SIGN OUR PETITION TO STOP THE INDUSTRIAL WIND TURBINES. 9. April 27th 2010, it's been 2 years since you left us. Still as sad today, as it was in 2008. We miss you a lot Ahmed. once again… cheers to Ahmed! GB
  10. Can anyone provide any insight regarding what helmet mount people are using for those 'looking-back-at-your-own-face' type shots? Any pictures out there? Obviously it's a short arm attached to the front/top of the helemt, a RAM mount perhaps? Thanks!
  11. I jump my Sony Alpha 100. I just chopped off the end of a Minolta RC-1000 wired remote, and spliced onto the wires to a blow switch. I'd assume it'd be the same for a bite switch. Piece of cake, no wires running to your hand.
  12. Today marks the one year anniversary of the loss of a great skydiver, and a great guy, Ahmed Kotb. Raise your glass of Grey Goose vodka, Ahmed's favourite drink, and salute the friend we miss so much. So many pictures, so many stories, so many good memories. And such an unfortunate loss. A very nice red maple tree was planted as a memorial in the fall of 2008, and stands along the waterfront at Budapest Park in Toronto, a few blocks from Ahmed's home. It's here at Ahmed's tree where many of Ahmed's friends meet, to BBQ and remember the good times we've shared. The picture shows the first red pull-up that was put on the tree, but there are now many more hanging from the tree today. Ahmed's parents have recently flown in from Egypt, and very much wish to meet with as many of Ahmed's friends as they can. At the time of this writing, there are plans to have them visit the Skydive Swoop dropzone on Saturday May 2nd at about 2:00pm and will most likely be staying for a couple hours. Please spread the word, as all are invited to attend. Our friend, gone but never forgotten. GB
  13. Wouldn't consider it awkward at all. It's not too bulky, and adds no real weight. There are openings in all the right spots. Once it's on, there's no need to take it off. It's not gonna protect from a boot to the camera, but it simply offers some protection from minor bumps when boarding, exiting or moving around in the plane. And works great as protection when your camera helmet is not on your head. An inexpensive investment for my expensive equipment.
