Zee 0 #2 August 15, 2006 I've used it since I first started - mainly because most of the vidots said it didn't work. It works freakin' GREAT if you're equipment is aligned and centered. Cameras are a Minolta Maxxum 7 and a Maxxum 7D and the lenses vary from a Sigma 15mm Fisheye, Sigma 20mm, Minolta 24mm, and a Minolta 50mm Peace, Z Action©Sports
dragon2 0 #3 August 15, 2006 I use it for wingsuit jumps, not for FS4 etc. I jump a nikon D70/20 mm lens, usually. ciel bleu, Saskia

Peej 0 #5 August 15, 2006 I have shot some 4 way on auto after Phreezone recommended it, it worked great. I have specific settings for tandem tho. Using the standard 18-55 Canon lens on my 350D. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
Sirob 0 #6 August 15, 2006 Absolutely NOT using auto focus in FF. DoF and hyperfocal point makes everything sharp. Nikon F301, D70s Lenses 16, 20, 28, 35 mm
linestretch 0 #7 August 15, 2006 Auto focus is all I've ever used. Sigma 15mm pretty much all the time...and a cheapo canon 28mm.my pics & stuff!
freefalle 0 #8 August 15, 2006 I use auto focus on every skydive with the exception of night jumps because the camera doesn't auto focus well in the dark. I've never had a problem with it. I am shooting with the digital rebel with a 19-35 lens
mwabd1 0 #9 August 15, 2006 I have a 20D with a Sigma 20mm. I shot in auto all of the time and the pics turn out great!
Costyn 0 #10 August 15, 2006 QuoteHow many people are using auto focus in freefall ? And what lense & camera are you shooting? I'm using auto-focus on my stills, which usually works pretty well, but at odd times it doesn't, which is why I looked into the hyperfocal distance thing. I understand the theory behind the hyperfocal distance, but I can't seem to replicate it on my camera (350D). I've used the hyperfocal distance calculator too, but to no avail. (I'm using the kit-lens btw). Oh yeah on video I use manual focus set to infinity with a .45 lens. divinglog 0 #12 August 15, 2006 I use autofocus on every jump, but when it's getting darker on sunset loads the autofocus won't work. EOS 300D with kit lens.

dragon2 0 #14 August 15, 2006 Because for FS4 I know the distance I'm going to be away from the jumpers at all times, so I set manual focus for that. No need for the lens to hunt if I aim in the middle of a star, for instance. Pics are always sharp this way. Besides, I save my battery (if on autofocus the camera keeps on focussing all the time), and pictures are quicker. For birdman, sometimes I'm in the formation sometimes above. For a biggger "V" I do use manual, for a 2 way where I am flying around my buddy or student, the distance varies from holding hands to tens of meters away, for instance during opening. Although for the opening shots, manual would be better.... ciel bleu, Saskia
Zee 0 #15 August 16, 2006 QuoteThe layout looks like my ol buddy Jamie Boutwell ?? Nice shots..... Thanks - I'm not sure who that guys is to be quite honest. I took the base shots during the Memorial Day Boogie at the Perrine last year. I like the guy with the cast - he was a complete loon. First I see him limpin' around the Holiday Inn, next, he's standing on the bridge getting ready to jump. He was a pretty cool cat. divinglog 0 #16 August 16, 2006 QuoteWhat mode and settings are you using? Mostly the sports mode for skydiving, the other modes on the ground. But I want to play with the other modes for freefall pictures during the next jumps.
