Also, do a search on versiontracker.com ... iMovie brings up about 199 hits. I have add-ins from GeeThree, Virtix and others.

True!

iMovie, while a wonderful tool for the absolutely most basic type of NLE, is not what I would even call a a real NLE as it doesn't provide for any sort of off-line or redig of source material.

After Effects, isn't a NLE at all! It's a -very- extensible motion graphics platform that I would never suggest to anyone just making home movies. The learning curve is just too steep.

Dont get dependent on transitions, they get to look cheesy after a while. Just look at normal films and see what, if any, transitions (besides fades and disolves) are being used.

But if you still want more transitions and are using a mac then get final cut and motion.
