pilotsR4pimps 0 #1 October 3, 2010 I am planning to get my TI rating this winter, Sigma, and I wasn't sure if they still require a cutaway. I haven't seen it on the progression card. I could always do a intentional before my repack but still want to know. Thanks!!
AggieDave 6 #2 October 3, 2010 The Vector/Sigma rating doesn't require a sport chop, since Bill Booth has said he feels like a sport chop doesn't prepare you for a tandem chop at all. There are a number of hanging harness drills (with a passenger hooked up) that you do, though. They're comical, but really good training.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

tetra316 0 #4 October 4, 2010 As far as I know, Strong still does require a cutaway. I did mine with an intentional system a local jump had made for him. Granted it doesn't prepare you for the real thing but is still better than nothing.

pchapman 261 #7 October 4, 2010 Stratostar is right. An emergency or intentional cutaway is still needed for Strongs. http://www.strongparachutes.com/Documents/PDF_Files/Tandemprerequisites.pdf
tylerexpress 0 #8 October 9, 2010 YEP... i just got my rating four months ago and it was required for Strong. I actually got my cutaway one week prior to the course with my Velo with broken lines on a hard opening... Everything worked out!!!Thomas C Tyler AKA T-MAN
camamel 0 #9 November 8, 2010 You choose the right system , in my mind the Sygma is by far the most advance and safe system in the world, so far. Personally I would like UPT to raise his minimum jumps to 1000 jumps, by experience 500 is not enought. RichardWhen you think you're good...this is when you become dangerous. freestyleleigh 0 #10 November 8, 2010 I got my sigma tandem rating in the states. I had never ever had a cutaway in 6800 jumps. I asked if I needed to and they said not for a sigma rating. Since getting my tandem rating I survived 680 tandems with no chop, then changed dropzone and had three in about four months! I now have about 1600 tandems and don't mind packing for myself if I have time.
