Well, considering it was Todak who made the call, I remain innocent of the charges. Besides, I seem to recall a certain old-timer tried to convince me he was a first jump student.
ok....lets try this. I was kidding cuz I thought maybe I cud get into your good graces and you might teach me some stuff.

You may have me by a decade, but I too find myself wondering when 'THAT' happened?!
....Your comments bring to mind a recent discussion I was having with some friends.
Could it be we're going to be the last generation of 'old timers' in the hard core sense?
Because of the very things you described, the memories we have, the comradeship, having gone through the 'weird' times together so to speak.
The newbies or 'tourists' as they're sometimes refered to...have a different frame of reference and 'may' not be stuck for life...
Then again there WAS a lotta beer going down during the discussion.....just like the 'good ole dayz'!
One of the biggest differences I see from the old days (the 60S) is that today we have a vast population of jumpers who do this everyday, there must be 30 at our small dz. When I began, skydiving was only a weekend thing. A friend of mine started at 50, lives across the street from the dz and made 1,000 jumps last year, he's retired. Could of never happened before. The enthusiasm and love of the sport is just as strong today, in many I've met lately, as it was 40 years ago. And today it's possible to become experienced in a much shorter time. I would of loved to jump everyday when I was a kid, but it just wasn't possible, and today kids start packing, then go on to video or tandem, this wasn't possible until only lately.

If anyone can turn you into a crusty old bastard, Buddy can.
The old jumpers then probably felt the same way about us so I guess that's the way it has to be - time moves on.
As far as fatalities , the older jumpers will understand this because it's the way we all used to think: 'Shit happens' and 'Fuck him, he ain't my brother'

QuoteNow I'm old, fat and can't see an elephant's ass at 10 feet.
It's wierd how that sort of thing sneaks up on you. There was a couple of old farts jumping at Lost Prairie this summer. I kept thinking who are those fat, old, bespeckled, bastards. They must be really really old. And a lot older than me. Then one of them said that he was 54. That's one year younger than I am. They were probably thinking the same kind of thoughts about me....Steve1

Start at age 23 weigh 125 lbs gain 1#/yr in 35yrs a persons weight could be 160#. at age 58.
The good news is gear is a lot lighter than 35 yr's ago and we are 35 yr's older and had a good time.

Well then I guess me and Bully are doing pretty good! Here we are today after a wednesday morning skydive durning the 8 and 10 way competition at the Nats. This pic is taken after the jump at the Ghetto in front of my place. We did a fun jump amidst all the activity there and then had beers...
We both did stand up landings in 0 wind... Not bad for a couple of old guys.
"Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there."
"Your statement answered your question."

Heck, you guys don't look a day over thirty. Or maybe it's just trick photography. You must have really lived a clean life to look that fit and chipper!....Steve1
