Weather, Delays, and AFF

Recommended Posts

I am on my AFF 3 jump, and am just starting to feel good about the whole fear (more like apprehension), and canopy flying worries, but I have not been able to jump in 3 weeks due to rain. This weekend it is due to rain again, pushing time between jumps to one month. I can only jump on the weekends. What can I do to stay sharp? I AM forever replaying each jump as its such a simple thrill just to think about it, and that seems to help, and I am pretty good at visualization, but have any of you experienced the same issue in training? How did it pan out?

Blues... (i wish!)

Sounds like you're doing fine. Weather holds are apart of skydiving, its sucks even more when you're a student...:S

You know, I tend to post whore even more when the weather is crap, BUT if you want to do something constructive, you could always read the SIMS.

I went thru the same weather problems thru my AFF training. I was there every weekend...rain or shine. Went over malfunctions picture quite a bit & just talked about different jumps/exits, etc. Good Luck!B|

Um, well, I am still there. [:/] I started AFF Labor Day, and the only days I had off from work there after were either rainy or windy. Same for this spring so far. I thought last Sunday was going to be perfect; no winds at all, crystal clear blue skies and upper 70's..didn't manifest until 1 or so, and by the time I was able to jump, students were put on a hold due to afternoon wind gusts. Then I had leave to go to work. :( Lesson learned--manifest early!!! My instructor told me to get there early on Sunday, I told him I go to church, he told me to get on the plane and lead everyone in a prayer--the other jumpers and God would appreciate that;).:D

While your grounded try watching a movie like fly like a pro or pack like a pro or reading the skydivers handbook. All those things kept me up to par and helped with anxiety fear i had about jumping. I just graduated from aff and now am working on an A license yay! people at my dropzone are the coolest people in the world. As im sure all dropzones =D anyways get some reading and browse this site too its got tons and tons of good information

[:/]I'm feeling the same way, but still got level 3 in on sunday and level 4 on wednesday. Considering I took two vacation days for the weekend and spent most of the time up at the DZ the runway being too wet to fly sucked on saturday so I started to learn to pack.:) It dried up enough eventually and I got to get my level 3 jump. B|
Then wednesday I made my beer cesna jump. (i've been told that exit 'should' be easier then an otter exit, but I managed to fowl it up. [:/] Salvaged it relatively well and splashed down in a puddle running off a couple steps...:o wet, muddy feet.)

I feel you - I still haven't been able to do my AFF1 due to bad weather, and even this weekend's forecast isn't that great. :(

I would echo this, last weekend we had a packing lesson, and watched a whole load of AFF videos shot by one of the instructors out in Elsinore. Hopefully it will have helped, even if its subconcious, and its a better use of time than doing nothing...

Same here in Belgium man :(

I'm currently at my AFF level 4... been cloudy, windy & rainy last weekend and it will be like that next weekend too >:(

I'm thinking of going to the dropzone and beg for a jumpmaster to join us to a wind tunnel so we can practice a bit. Downside is it's a 4-5 hour drive but it'll be great
