Unstable 8 #6 January 22, 2004 Check it out on Airliners.net - Quote150 Skyvans and Skyliners built between the mid 1960s and 1987, almost all of which were Series 3s (including almost 60 military Series 3Ms). dgskydive 0 #9 January 22, 2004 Of course we still have our Skyvan. It was done for a bit last year. But it is fine now. ELoy I hear just bought at least has three now. I think they are selling at least one. So somebody else may have one soon.Dom

PhreeZone 15 #12 January 22, 2004 Tailgates in the US are pretty limited. Skyvans are used more places then CASA's. Crosskeys (AireExpress) has one. Deland has one Perris has one SDA has at least 2 and maybe 3. CSS has 4 CASA's Raeford has one Casa And there might be one more floating around.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
diablopilot 2 #13 January 22, 2004 QuoteI like that plane! You may get tired of it. Skyvans(my perspective) Noisy. Stinky. Hot (low airflow) Hard to spot. PITA Door. Did I mention Noisy? Scary to land with. Much prefer Twin Otters, and believe it or not, the Cessna Caravan and Grand Caravan are still my favorite A/C to jump!---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. SkymonkeyONE 3 #14 January 22, 2004 I will agree that the door is a pain in the ass on a Skyvan, especially for shorter jumpers. It's super shitty if you have to open that thing with a wingsuit on. That said, wingsuits are generally out last, thus negating that problem. It sucked completely at Rantoul, though.... Chuck
PhreeZone 15 #15 January 22, 2004 Ahh.. many of the same reasons I dislike the Van. Luckly for me the Casa addresses a few of those issues. Its still noisy and hard to spot, but its got plently of airflow, its door is opened by the pilots and its not too bad to land in. Too bad my head smashes into the door on every exit. >It sucked completely at Rantoul, though.... Tell me about it, I was usually the one that was tall enough to hold the door up while someone locked it into place. I exited still zipping more then once.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

PhreeZone 15 #23 January 22, 2004 Yeah, the next World meet in Croatia?? is to be out of Tailgates. Skyvans, Casa 212's, and Mi8 choppers have all been used in the past to meet this requirement. I'm not sure what the host country this year is going to provide, but I'm thinking its the Mi8's. Casa's require 2 pilots to fly, Skyvan's 1. Hard call on what to get if you are needing a practice plane based on the cost. Mi8's are just a tad out of most DZ price ranges.
