huka551 0 #1 March 27, 2005 What does "dirt dive" refer to? Is that the layout of RW on the ground prior to going up? Muff Brother 3723
GeordieSkydiver 0 #2 March 27, 2005 Exactly that. Its a dress rehersal for what the jump is going to look like. It rarely does though...Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
slotperfect 7 #3 March 27, 2005 Correct! It's like a rehearsal before the jump. You did them as a student walking through the dive flow with your instructor(s).Arrive Safely John
huka551 0 #4 March 27, 2005 You would do that in free flying as well right? That is if you had something planned with someone else? Muff Brother 3723
GeordieSkydiver 0 #5 March 27, 2005 I've never seen FF'ers doing that, but Its kinda hard to stand on your head in the packing room, with someone hurtling past at 250mph. They do have a flight plan (as such) though.Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
AggieDave 6 #6 March 27, 2005 Firstly, there are no dumb questions. Always ask questions. You might benifit from searching the SIM or doing a search here before asking (not in this case, I believe), but there are still no dumb questions (except the one you didn't ask).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I've seen many FF jumps dirtdived. Sometimes with chairs being used or with comments along the lines of "ok, now I'm on my head" even though they're standing upright.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Headdown dirt dives are done regularly. Their orientation to the earth means nothing, as you'd are seeing what you dirt dive on the ground, as you would in the air, unless some in the skydive are in a sit or standing orientation. Be safe. Travman 6 #9 March 27, 2005 Skydive is done in the sky, dirt dive is done in the dirt.

huka551 0 #11 March 28, 2005 The term sounded way too close to "eating dirt", and I wanted to make sure that wasn't what was meant Muff Brother 3723
riggerrob 561 #12 March 28, 2005 The only dumb question is the one you don't know the answer to as you scream towards the ground! Dirt-diving canopy formations is fun, as long as you are not the bottom man on an 8-stack! Hee! Hee!
