life after aff

Recommended Posts

I think once you are off AFF you are cleared for self-supervision. Basically you can jump by your self but not with other people unless its a coach or instructor. I think if you want to get things signed off on your progression card, you have to jump with a coach or instructor.

It is kind of DZ specific, as there are USPA rules that are followed differently. Some DZs are more strict than the USPA, some less.

A new rule - a D licence skydiver may jump with you, up to a 4 way group, so as long as two of the folks have a "D".

Morrison is correct for USPA recommendations.

Tdog is correct for the real world.

The BSRs now allow D-license holders to jump with students.

a. Student freefall training for group freefall jumps must be conducted by either:

1. Student freefall training for group freefall jumps must be conducted by either A USPA Coach under the supervision of a USPA Instructor or;

2. USPA D license holders provided there is a minimum ratio of one D license holder to one student with a maximum of a 4-way.

Pedants might point out that this allows a coach supervised by an instructor as packers are supervised by riggers (read as there may be on on the DZ) to go on a 100 way with 99 students while 7 D-license holders can't take one student up.

Of course at a lot of DZs, the S&TA would be one of the seven jumpers.

I am currently doing my AFF at Cross Keys as well. It is to my understanding that you need either 5 or 6 coach jumps and if I am remembering correctly, a packing class, plus 25 logged jumps total (this includes the mandatory coach jumps) and then you can test for your A license.

I think, but I am not 100% certain, as I do not have my paperwork on me. I will check later.
