catch that tandem???

how many of you out there catch your tandems landing? I havent seen it on one dropzone, but then almost ordinary on another....so what about your dz??

We catch our tandems whenever the wind picks up and they can use a hand.

If it's windy, we put out catchers. The TIs know to land where the catchers are.

I was out at the DZ this past sunday...it was a bit windy and several of the packers came out to catch tandems when they were coming in.

Wear gloves.
Stand calmly on the bowl/target.
As the tandem touches down, vigorously grab a toggle.
Grab that toggle so vigorously that you rip it out of the student's hand.
Run up wind.

We usually have a catcher out no matter what.

2 if it's windy.

Even if the tandem doesn't need to be caught, having someone out there to assist the student, or help gather up the canopy (I usually gather up the drouge and bridle and hand it to the TI) is "nice".

And seeing the student right after their first jump is one of my favorite things about the sport ("Awesome" is the first word out of their mouth 90-95% of the time
