GalFisk 0 #28 March 7, 2013 This thread reminds me of something I noticed regarding ads. I had a bunch of old Reader's Digest from the 70s and 80s, which featured among other things, car ads. The ads from that time all extolled some virtue of the car being sold. Crash safety, fuel economy, airtightness (showed a car going through a dust-filled road tunnel), brakes (ABS was coming at the time). Contrast with car ads nowadays, which are all about emotions and vague concepts like freedom or style.

pchapman 261 #36 March 8, 2013 There was another ad once, possibly from the Ranch in NY, I think showing someone sitting on a porcelain toilet outside. A local DZO of mine wrote a letter to the editor, that was published, objecting to the vulgar and disgusting nature of the ad. While anyone is free to think the ad stupid, nothing says "old fogey" better than to write an indignant letter to the editor about how crude things are these days!
