Phil1111 911 #51 July 11, 2022 The US seems to set new standards every day for wack-job republicans and the ideas they come up with. "Politicians have to run on some kind of platform, and Ben Moss—my incoming state House representative here in North Carolina's District 52—decided that his animating principle is Being Mad at Electricity. To prove his animosity toward this invisible menace, he's sponsoring House Bill 1049, which would allocate $50,000 to destroy free public car chargers. It contains some other enlightened ideas, but that's the main theme: We've simply got to do something about these free public chargers, even if it costs us $50,000! Those things cost tens of cents per hour, when they're being used." The law doesn't apply if free gas and diesel is next to the free charging station. This law was endorsed by Brent. By being far worse? 11 top members of his administration and his campaign have been convicted of felonies from fraud all the way to conspiring with Russia against the United States. Trump is currently on trial for rape and slander. Trump has openly called US veterans "suckers" and "losers" for serving their country. (And yes, that was verified by FOX News.) Trump incited an attempted coup where his supporters stormed the US Capitol, vandalized and looted, literally shit on the floor - and tried to beat cops to death with American flags and tried to kidnap and kill the Vice President of the United States. Almost 1000 of them have now been arrested, and there are now dozens of convicted Jan 6th felons awaiting sentencing and already in prison. After he started the coup he was initially joyous. Then when things didn't go his way he threw food at the White House wall and literally tried to take the wheel in the presidential limo, only to be restrained like a child having a tantrump by the Secret Service. Trump instituted a child separation policy to better punish migrants who illegally cross the border. Initially he bragged about this, then said he didn't do it, Obama did. It would take a cruel and despicable person indeed to support separating children from their families in a foreign country. He called Nazis and white supremacists "very fine people" after the Charlottesville riots. He ditched any observers to have private conversations with Vladimir Putin after he promised him great rewards if Putin helped him win the election He fired the director of the FBI when the director refused to sabotage the investigation into his Russian ties. He mocked a disabled reporter on stage by imitating his spastic movements. The whole country has seen his evil, his hatred of Ameria and his attempts to end democracy in the US. And if you think that Hillary Clinton's use of the wrong email server is anything like what Trump has done . . . you haven't been paying attention.

Well done, again, as ever. But what do you pray for? Ron to have an epiphany? That's probably not on offer, I'm sure you'll agree. Are you hoping to get through to him? If so, you'll need to apply a more visceral tone I'm afraid. That is, in fact, just the sort of tone that is problematic here. Eschew it, moderate it, be above it in the most Winsorlike fashion possible, but the reality is that sometimes we really are just talking to the wall. In the end the scorpions we befriend, or attempt to understand, will sting us out of self interest. Just the way it is. The immigrants did NOT enter illegally. They entered the US and asked for asylum. That is a perfectly legal way to enter the country. There's a fairly long and involved process before they are allowed to remain and apply for citizenship, but the entry and their presence in the US are both totally legal. I was writing for Ron, who considers anyone who crosses the border without permission/a visa illegal. But as you point out, it's quite legal to enter the US and then ask for asylum. FIFY and Ron ain't the only one. 40.7% of Americans have a favorable view of trump right now. Which is two percent higher than President Biden. Perhaps America should change its slogan from Home of the Free Because of the Brave. To "home of the indifferent and land where facts don't mean squat".
