What I said was the, "semi-presidential representative democratic republic" of Portugal as your go-to example demonstrates a true lack of political and socio-economic understanding. You are placing that "look a good thing" right up their with the same forms of government as Russia, China, Syria, Palestine, etc"

Since you stubbornly believe that a democracy could never be socialist, there isn't much I am going to say that will convince you otherwise. Actually, I am pretty sure that whatever I will say, will just cause you to entrench further. Enjoy.

Why would you need to increase taxes?

Just defund the military.

Our deficit is $800 billion.  Total military spending is $600 billion.  We could cut the military to nothing and still be adding hundreds of billions in debt every year.

(And this is during a bull market.  Imagine what will happen during the next recession.)

Which is why we need to cut more spending. Need to eliminate regulatory commissions. Freeze spending on NASA, who needs space travel anyway when we has such problems at home. And besides look at SpaceX - the private sector does it much better anyway. Get rid of the ATF. When was the last time you heard anything good come from the CDC? Gone! FDA doesn't do anything - eliminate them too. EPA? Without their meddling we would have much more big beautiful waters and clean air. Stop wasting all that money on SNAP type programs. Get rid of Medicare and Medicaid. If you can't afford to pay our own way at a hospital or get drugs (which are now going to be much cheaper since we eliminated the FDA), then just die already. You are no good to society anyway. But whatever you do, don't ever touch my taxes or eliminate my subsidies for electric vehicles and solar panels.

Hey - get your government hands off my Medicare!

Defund the military and watch our economy tank.

Defund almost anything and watch our economy tank.  Unfortunate that we have put ourselves in a situation where we have to spend more and more just to stay afloat.  Not surprising, though, given that the average US household is $140,000 in debt.  For Americans it is becoming a way of life.  And it will work - until it doesn't.

There are a lot of republicans out there praying that Trump loses, so that they have someone to blame when the economy tanks - and they can't borrow any more for stimulus.

I'm assuming this would include a home mortgage.  Not a shocking number if it does.

You should try the average in San Francisco.

That is a hot bed of leftist thinking, right?

And one of the strongest economies in the country - with a consequent high demand for real estate, by people with lots of money.

(Interestingly, when you ignore mortgages, young people in San Jose have one of the LOWEST debt burden in the country.  Something to be said for living where you make tons of money, even if it's a "hotbed of leftist thinking" eh?)

If I can't afford any more debt after my mortgage; then of course my non-mortgage debt is going to be lower.

No military = no veterans = no VA - another $200 billion a year.

Please.  How about there's no place for the average US Citizen to live in the area so the debt numbers are skewed.

There's no place for the average US citizen to live in the upscale areas of most large cities.  (At least without living two to a room or something.)  Capitalism in action.
