No, not a surprise. The only really surprising this is that he was able to more or less hide his nature from public view for so long. He is a Jesuit, they are generally very disciplined men.

I understand that loyalty Wendy. But it completely overlooks the fact that the attack is coming from parishioners. They are supposed to be the heart of the family. Priests are supposed to serve. Catholic priests have a nasty habit of only serving themselves and each other. Innocent children? They can be sacrificed for the church without batting an eye.

Yeh, but he did send Karadima, the pedophile priest who messed up all those lives, to his room. When the Pope decides to punish someone he really brings the hammer down.
