"Government stay out of my business"

Recommended Posts

I think I figured it out...

Most voters want this. The problem is that they don't care if the government stays out of someone else's business when the issue isn't one they care about, or where they think the government should interfere.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

It's more complicated than that.

Most? I'd say there is a pretty significant group that wants the govt to take care of them but only in the ways they want to be taken care of.... For example, some want the govt to pay their medical expenses, but do not want the govt telling them they can't smoke. Some want the govt to cover their retirement, but not tell them when they can retire.

Me? I think the Federal govt should limit itself to the Constitution and stay out of just about everything else and leave the rest to the States.

Infrastructure, Justice and law enforcement. (Including international protection and military)

And that is about it.

Exactly. Farmers want the government out of their business - except for the farming subsidies. Retired military want the government out of their business - except for veteran's benefits. Logging companies want the government out of their business - except for trade protection from Canadian companies. Etc.

Fixed. The federal government doesn't need to be involved with power lines, etc, only things that can't be handled at the state or local level.

And imagine veterans thinking they can still get benefits. Those entitlement welfare queens!

misquoting billvon doesn't make for a good argument.

It's been a really bad start to the week for you, man. I know how hard it is to keep a straight face supporting the bullshit of the GOP this week, but your posts are completely devoid of meaningful discourse.

Undoubtedly the cognitive dissonance of his fantasies not matching reality.

>Yes, because as we know, you think military Vets are the same as welfare queens.

Excellent intentional misunderstanding! You could be a FOX News reporter with mad skillz like that.

(And thank you for once again proving my point.)

Why would you put retired military/veteran benefits on the list? Some of these people kept us from speaking German. Using them to get across your point is a little tacky.

No misquoting. That's exactly what he said, word for word.

Anyone who has posted on this site for a while knows he constantly associates veteran benefits to welfare.

Yes, it was, except that usually when someone says something like "word for word" you don't chop out the words around it, removing context. Unless you're lying.

His point has consistently been that benefits are benefits - and people have a long history of being in favor of the ones they like, and very angry at those they do not.

But this particular invocation came in a thread where you and others pretended to be outraged about the closed memorial, and not about the fact that the shutdown VA is ignoring all pending applications for veteran benefits right now. And he mocked you quite accurately at that point for this terrible inconsistency - clearly the GOP can't stand those damn soldiers wanting benefits for their service. You, given multiple chances to explain, tap danced your ass off.

Bullshit and you know it. I didn't "chop" any words.

Exactly my point. He see's benefits for those who served exactly the same as he see's benefits for ne're do wells.

Now that we have that cleared up, what was your point exactly? Oh, right, you didn't have one. Thanks for playing.

you're lying.

You're pretty funny, Kelp. You do realize you just agreed with my original point, don't you. Typical Kelp discussion that ends on a dead end street.

There's nothing funny about lying on a matter that is so trivial to confirm. It's just stupid. You chopped more than you included.

I have always maintained that government is the least efficient means of doing anything and therefore must be restricted to things that can't be done at a lower level. The individual level is best.

I think Wendy is remembering an old bit of prose from WWII. I can't cite it from memory, but you will remember it when you read, "They came for the Jews and I did nothing because I was not a Jew".

I have also long maintained that I don't want to tell anyone else how to live their lives because I don't want them telling me how to live mine. Don't do anything that hurts others, including stealing their money through taxes, and we'll get along fine.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

What's stupid is to argue something without realizing you are actually agreeing. I understand your frustration.

I really doubt Billvon needs you to defend him no matter how strong your maternal instincts

You already claimed he doesn't differentiate between the basis for government payments. Therefore VA benefits and welfare are the same to him, per your statement. If you agree, then you have just validated what I said. But nobody expects you to admit you are wrong, so have a great day.
