Your analogy does not fit
The gov is only responcible if we make them
Take their money, make the borrowing ilegal and we might have a chance
Shrinking the gov is the right thing to do
The rest will follow
if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

QuoteIf the feds were spending at 2005 levels the budget would be balanced. But since spending has increased a trillion per year since then, it's a deep hole.

Sure they can. They can get a new credit card, get a cash advance and - voila! - free money! (It's not really free, of course - but neither is the money we just "print.")
>Take their money
Who "takes their money?"
>make the borrowing ilegal
So a balanced budget amendment?

Aren't you one of those that laugh at comparing national spending with family budgets?
Welcome to reality.

Yes, this and limiting the size and power of the government to identified Constitutional levels

it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

>Yes
I would support that provided the budget was required to be balanced over a fairly long time (i.e. more than one economic cycle.) Requiring massive spending cuts during a recession would destroy a fragile economy, and the massive government growth that would take place during economic bubbles would do no one any good.

I keep hearing this
I dont think I buy that anymore
It is just another scare tactic used by the big government liberals who do not what their money pot to dry up
BTW, I am NOT saying it would be painless
if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

>what their money pot to dry up
?? It's also a problem of "too much money." If you have a balanced budget amendment, and you get into an economic bubble, you have to spend the money. Guaranteed big government. Guaranteed boondoggles. Government contractors saying "we have a requirement to spend $600 on this toilet seat. Do you want to the money or do you want us to go somewhere else?"
That's dumb.

What is dumb is what we have now

it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Yes, it is.
We already know you are a bigger government liberal
Just about everything you think you know about me is wrong.
You want more money for more government that has more control over private lives and business
Why cant you just man up and admit it
We all know the truth about you
The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
I think it is. We're spending money like an irresponsible teenager with a credit card. Democrats think we can spend even more as long as we get a much better job real soon now. Republicans think we can solve the problem by just "taking the dollars away" - if the money stops the debt goes away.
Neither will solve the problem. We have to cut spending - which means actually having fewer wars, actually cutting Social Security, veteran's benefits, new roads, new jets etc. You can't just say "cut the money and they will starve." They will keep borrowing as they always do.
We also have to increase taxes - which means increasing taxes on most people, not just the rich.
Do both those things and the teenager might learn some responsibility, and be a little more carefu in the future.
