Andrewwhyte 1 #26 January 27, 2010 QuoteUltimately I do want to sell my house and downsize into something smaller (haha ... like a trailer in Eloy? or Perris or some other southern DZ? ... no I couldn't do that ... I would be an illegal alien if I did that). Got a spot for your trailer picked out right here in Alberta (Westlock). Come help us install western Canada's first pond. JohnRich 4 #27 January 27, 2010 QuoteThey laid off a whole bunch of IT staff and kept myself and a few others on board until May of 2010 to help migrate the legacy data to this 3rd party provider. Right there is your leverage to negotiate a good severance deal for yourself. They need you, because you're one of the few people that knows the system, and can perform this transition. If they have to hire outside contractors, it will cost them a fortune. Threaten to terminate your employment and move on with your career elsewhere, and see how much they're willing to up the ante to keep you around. In fact, get everyone else remaining in the group to join in with you. Put the screws to 'em. Get a hefty pay increase during the remaining work period, and a hefty severance package. CanuckInUSA 0 #28 January 27, 2010 Quote Come help us install western Canada's first pond. I do need to jump more. I went from someone who lived to jump to someone who shrugged it off. Pond? wow that would be the bomb ... but my JVX scares right me now ... I don't have to tell you this, but swooping is something that you really need to be current with. The margin for error is slim. But a pond might be enough influence to get me motivated again. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
CanuckInUSA 0 #29 January 27, 2010 Quote In fact, get everyone else remaining in the group to join in with you. We sort of did that. If any one of us remaining IT guys do make it to our termination dates, we will be paid a bonus. We tried to play hardball with them and some of our demands were met. But some weren't. In the end personally I just don't give a damn. If something better comes along, I am gone and they know this. Once again this thread wasn't started because I am losing my job. I found out 6 weeks ago that I was being phased out (I am lucky, I could have been one of the guys who was let go when local management decided to use the 3rd party provider). No part of this thread is because I am ticked off that people who helped make this a successful profitable entity are losing their jobs. And well I am just having some fun with anarchy. But real anarchy is not fun. Just ask the people of Somalia and possibly soon to be Pakistan what they think of anarchy. rehmwa 2 #30 January 27, 2010 Quoteor an antichrist. Which might be more fun, with the 4 horsemen & armies & all of that. We had a long thread about the quasi-christ, semi-christ, demi-christ and anti-christ way back when we were all humorously cynical and not arguing so much. Missing the good ol' days of speakers corner ... Put the screws to 'em Gee that sounds awfully much like a commie/socialist agenda there JR I thought all you staunch conservatives did not like those union/collective bargaining kinds of actions
