I think I am MOST disappointed in the guy.

You would think that "I fly the space shuttle" would get you better play than the semi-hot mission specialist.

But that's just me... :D

But dude, she was willing to KILL for him. That's gold if you ask me.:D

I'll bet psychiatrists and psychologists are going to be jumping all over this.

NASA is reviewing its psych tests after this.

Wondering if this episode will make it harder for women to get into the astronaut program in the future.

Cheers, T

Why is everyone assuming that these two are the only action? These are just the only two that we know about. :o

Next weeks Jerry Spring Show will be "women who have slept with astronauts".

I was checking out some of the videos of her interviews last summer, just before her Shuttle flight. Pictures of her as a midshipman at Annapolis too, in her full dress uniform. The woman's had an outstanding career with the Navy and NASA up 'til now. Masters degree in aerospace engineering too. And three kids.

I think it's just a fucking shame. Obviously something snapped inside her head. Something with her brain chemistry has got to be seriously out of whack. Her career's in ruins, she may go to the joint, the Navy will crucify her, and she may not get to see her kids either. And her only possible defense is that she flipped her lid. I'm not excusing her, she may have to be punished. But I hope some serious consideration might be given to the possibility that she's mentally ill and needs a lot of help. It's just a shame.

Probably be a skit about it on Saturday Night Live too...

I think that everyone is giving some serious consideration to the possibility.

That is the oddest part of all the commentary.
If you did this, you would not be out on bail.
You would be in jail for attempted 1st degree murder.
There would be no "may have to be punished".

Anybody who drives halfway across the country to stalk someone is crazy. Regardless of her history, she was going to cut that girl up and put her in those garbage bags.

She needs help, no doubt, but she is dangerous right now.

True. However, although justice is supposed to be equal for all, we know that's not how it is in the real world. The robber barons of the corporate scandals (and politicians) go to minimum-security prisons. This isn't right, and it isn't fair (consider Duke Cunningham [R-CA], who was convicted in late 2005 of taking millions in bribes. He's in a minimum), but that's the way it is.

In any case, due consideration must be given to this woman's contributions to our society, which have been immense. These in turn must be compared to the severity of the offense to determine whether any mitigation is warranted.

After all, it isn't as though she was a heroin-addicted street-walker who was going after a rival in that profession in order to win the affections of a pimp.

If I were her legal counsel, I would be carefully crafting an insanity plea, and finding ways to make it stick.

In presenting her and her career in a favorable light, I would emphasize all the positives (wife, mother, scientist, naval aviator, astronaut, USNA grad, etc.) and present her as someone who put her life on the line time and again, but the stress of separating from her husband was the straw that broke the camel's back.

If the jury has any single mothers, they'll never vote to convict.
