QuoteSo, how do you tell the difference between a prophet and a whackjob?
A prophet is a fictional entity, a whackjob is anyone who believes they are a fictional entity.

A prophet is a whackjob that hasn't been exposed yet.
Seriously...how is it that guys like Swaggert, Robertson, etc get into these positions? Because they say agreeable things. They get enough of a following, they start to venture farther out on the branch. Eventually the branch snaps, and they go from seer to basket case. But the basic tenet that fueled their rise to "stardom" remains the same.
I believe that's known as "false idolatry."

Also, I'll assume you meant medical practitioners when you wrote "doctors".Quote
No. I meant doctors.Quote
I meant physicians.
Oh well then that really clarifies things.
What the heck are you saying?
You are no longer allower to whine about people not reading your posts, because you're reversing their meaning with your edits.

Matthew 24:11: "And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many."
QuoteQuoteWay to miss the point. your previous post was all about mocking the intellect and reasoning abilities of Christians. All I did was show that two groups (doctors and scientists), who are thought to have superior intelligence and reasoning abilities, are mostly religious and believe in a higher power.
"All I did was show..."
I didn't miss your point at all. You used selective (incorrect population selection) statistics to find a group. Then, you used the logical fallacy of argument by domination - The idea that since someone "smart" believes, then we must all (like sheep) follow their beliefs.
The problem that you run into, is that I can easily find someone "smarter" and then, using your reasoning, you'd have to agree with me.
A survey of 50,000 Chinese doctors in a predominantly Buddhist area will rebut your skewed statistics with some just as flawed.
However since you are quoting scientists, let's use the National Science Foundation (US gov).QuoteConcerns have been raised, especially in the science community, about widespread belief in paranormal phenomena. Scientists (and others) have observed that people who believe in the existence of paranormal phenomena may have trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality. Their beliefs may indicate an absence of critical thinking skills necessary not only for informed decisionmaking in the voting booth and in other civic venues (for example, jury duty[38] ), but also for making wise choices needed for day-to-day living.
QuoteDoesn't quite jibe with the "Christians are just a bunch of superstitious, ignorant sheep" stereotype many on this board are so fond of.
I don't really see a stereotype here because the posting group seems numerically balanced, although polar opposites in belief. I do consider this a personal view though.
I view any worship of supernatural beings, astrology, ESP, superpowers, and such to be astounding.
You know, if you actually addressed the implications of the studies I brought up, instead dancing around them, you might have a point. If only.

Reversing their meaning? Sure thing.
You're so cute when you try to play Thread Nazi.

Covering your embarassment at being caught in a lie by attacking me as a nazi? I'm amazed you'd dare show your avatar in this thread again, but you did and stooped even lower.
Unless... could it be you don't know what a physician is? I'll tell you what you can choose.
Dumb or mendacious, which is it? No editing after you decide what you you were thinking this time though.

Will both of you shut up and then go off somewhere and grow up? This has devolved from an intelligent discussion into an unintelligent discussion into something that can no longer even be considered a discussion. Go get some fresh air or something.
