Does my flag offend you????????????????!!!!!

Recommended Posts

No, my flag does not offend me.

Gotta say, this forum's seen some wacky outrageous stuff, and I just don't think that tame, unoriginal, oversized bumper sticker quite hacks it. Certainly it's not worth ALL those question marks and exclamation points...

Overall score for the thread: 2

Nuts. I have a flag and I hang it once in a while on my property. No one messes with it - even in socialist Minnesota.

This guy has a right to do what he's doing, but it's equivalent to walking up to someone and smacking them in the face with it. No class.

Just because he has the right, doesn't mean he's not being an asshole. He's probably a movie maker of some kind.

Maybe he and George Lucas can get together and talk about how stupid all the 'little people' are.

Of course, it looks like it's a parade. Now if he just drove around like that all the time, we'd have more of a point. Still, respectful demonstrations is always better than obnoxious in your face belligerence.

Am I the only one that noticed that the vehicle is taking part in a parade???
Honestly, I wish I had that on my truck.

The sole intention, is learning to fly.Condition grounded, but determined to try. Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies.Tongue tied and twisted, just an Earth bound misfit.

think it's fantastic. I would like to see a fireproof flag produced. That would be fantastic.

How would you later follow the recommended method for retiring them when they were worn?

Section 8k of the Flag Code states,

"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

I take pride in many things . . . but certainly not that kind of behavior. I would like to think of the U.S. as a safe place for people to come to, to escape persecution. But with more and more of this shit popping up, I certainly don't see it as such.

I would also like to think of Americans as being open minded . . . not really feeling that either. "Burn our flag, and I'll punch you in the face. But if we desecrate your holy book, it's because your religion sucks, and you all deserve to die anyway". Hypocrites EVERYWHERE.

The sign on the back of that truck is the nationalistic equivalent of a Southern Baptist billboard saying "Repent or Burn in Hell". Not very welcoming, now is it?

I guess it's just the "silent professional" in me but I think the US Flag would have had a much more profound effect by itself (with a POW/MIA flag below it, maybe). Despite it being a parade. The "leave the country if you don't like it" stuff won't bring anyone to the cause. Those people will continue to dishonor it yet continue to live under the protection that those who pay tribute to it provide. You know what I mean.

I think one can pay respect to the flag in a more respectful and less provocative way. There's no need to ride around town and stick it in everyone's faces. Speaking specifically about the bumper sticker and not the flag itself.

ditto...

(ditto....sounds kind of nasty:$)

I'm sorry, I thought this thread was about a redneck asshole and the hatred displayed on the back of his truck, not what I'm willing to fight for.

And since you asked, I'm willing to fight to shut assholes like that up, so the rest of the world can quit hating us. :S But I won't resort to violence. Although I'm certain that reasoning wouldn't work. I wonder how I know that. :S

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to appreciate people's viewpoints MUCH more when they are expressed objectively, with respect, and WITHOUT overzealous foaming at the mouth...

Flying a flag with pride = totally cool.

Flying a flag with a sign telling me and everyone else to take a hike if I don't like it = not so totally cool, in fact, quite lame.

It is an in your face thing.. My license plate use to say "Love it or Leave it" with an American Flag in the background.

I have no problem with someone bitching about the US. As long as they are active in fixing what they bitch about. Otherwise they just need to STFU..

Exactly - being self righteous and confrontative doesn't convince those who disagree with you. He's pretty well just being an asshole and patting himself on the back.

That sign is an emotional appeal that won't reach anyone not already converted (preaching to the choir). Again, it's self congratulary and inward directed. It is one of the problems with free speech that we willingly accept loudmouth assholes so that those that are able to speak constructively can do so without fear.

Edit for Kelly: I would fight to allow loudmouth assholes to speak even if they are crude or even if I disagree with them. Not for them, but for those others. Fighting to shut someone up is just plain wrong. We'll leave that for the extremists of the two political parties, etc.

> I think it's fantastic.

Picture the opposite. Imagine a truck with a burning flag in the back, driving down a street in your town, with a bumper sticker saying "Don't like me exercising my constitutional rights? Call 1-800-CRYBABY." Just as valid a statement as this guy made, and just as offensive.

Otherwise they just need to STFU

You know what...most people who bitch don't have a need to STFU. Maybe YOU have a need for them to shut up, but that's YOUR problem, not theirs. There are lots of people I would rather not listen to, so I don't. Because that's as far as MY choice in the matter goes. Maybe that line of thought isn't as sensible as it seems to me. Maybe it's more effective to intimidate people into shutting up....
