You're right, the language is great. Lots of details and subtleties are lost in the transition to film, but it has more raw impact. It is so graphic and shocking, that it can leave a lasting impression that some people don't get from reading a book. It has been over a year since I last saw it, but I can still remember the very timing of the kicks during "Singing in the Rain". Ouch.Burgess ended up very bitter after the making of the movie. It had far more widespread success that way than in print. He also hated the things that Kubrick did to the movie, especially the omission of the last chapter.
