Google's changes

Recommended Posts

Well, the "main" site is still linked. Both are pretty clean. I use Google all the time, so I'll reserve judgement.

Google needed to do this since Yahoo! dropped them as their primary search engine.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

It has to do with their webcrawler hitting your site and how many sites link to you. Or you can pay a LOT of money to have you site pop up on the top of the list or the right of the screen.

I'm working on developing a web site. How can I make my site to come up in Google searches?

Forgive me if this is a dumbass question.

Get it out there first. Then get other people to point to you. That is how the Google hacks work. Something like 32 sites linking the same word or phrase to the same web site will bring it to the top.

It also seems to me that .com sites generally fare better than others.

Froogle has been around for awhile in Beta. They've had lots of stuff in the works for awhile, not just since Yahoo! dropped them. They keep the homepage very clean for a reason, so that it doesn't take long to load and is easy to use, I promise the code those MIT boys and girls are churning out aren't high-schoolish in any way.

Very cool - They are soon going to be competing with Yahoo and Hotmail in the email arena, with a some significant additions. . . Sign me up!

https://gmail.google.com/

A Google approach to email.
Gmail is an experiment in a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that you should never have to delete mail and you should always be able to find the message you want. The key features are:

Search, don't sort.
Use Google search to find the exact message you want, no matter when it was sent or received.

Don't throw anything away.
1000 megabytes of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message.

Keep it all in context.
Each message is grouped with all its replies and displayed as a conversation.

No pop-up ads. No banners.
You see only relevant text ads and links to related web pages of interest.

Guess what?

They're reserving the right to read your e-mail!

They can keep their privacy invasion e-mail, don't need it.

Based on what I've read, I believe that the problem sentence in the privacy policy will most likely change before rollout. Gmail is currently in closed beta testing, so it is too early to draw any kind of conclusion about the service. Things can and will change.

I don't think it will be unlike what any of the spam filters all the other services like Hotmail are utilizing.
