glgflyer 0 #1 July 14, 2009 I jump with eyeglasses. I currently use a pair of over-the-glass goggles and a protec helmet over those. I was wondering what type of setup other jumpers who wear eyeglasses use. I,m just wondering if there might be a little more comfortable way to do it. I've never worn a full face helmet but am wondering if that might be an option and not have to wear the bulky goggles. I don't know if a full face will fit over the eyeglasses or not. Any and all input will be appreciated. Thanks.

heavydude 0 #3 July 14, 2009 Made one jump with my glasses, next 99 with contacts. Never had a problem jumping with contacts but I prefer glasses for office work during the week.

ZigZagMarquis 9 #6 July 14, 2009 I too wear glasses and I've made pretty much 99.9% of my jumps with over-the-glasses goggles and a Protec helmet over that. Personally, I've never seriously considered getting perscription goggles as my script is pretty strong and I don't feel like shelling out the bucks for perscription goggles when I already do for glasses and perscription sun-glasses. I know folks who wear a full face with a flip down face shield that get glasses on underneath, but one needs to choose their eye glass frames well to get a combination that fit. Beachbum 0 #7 July 14, 2009 I'm another ProTec/goggles person (so far), but I have seen at least one person in this area who has a full face that he can keep his glasses on underneath. As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks? skybytch 259 #8 July 14, 2009 Might also consider getting a pair of glasses with smaller frames for skydiving use. Some frames will fit under "regular" goggles.
skydveraz 0 #9 July 15, 2009 I jump all the time with contacts and a full face helmet. Never had a problem.Glasses can fog up, contacts don't! Arizona only has two seasons, Hot and HOTTER!
caldwellbuilder 0 #10 July 15, 2009 I use prescription sun glasses called "RECSPECS" These have a goggle like elasic band to hold them on your head. Very comfortable, well made, and they look good too.
GLIDEANGLE 1 #11 July 15, 2009 I wear my spectacles with a "croakie" strpa to keep them on my head. My helmet is a Havok by Bonehead... full face and spectacle friendly. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
The_Don 0 #12 July 15, 2009 I jump with glasses. They're not real big, but the only full face I could find that would work was a Bonehead Mamba. I love it, and you can open it in an instant once you're under canopy.I am NOT being loud. I'm being enthusiastic!
glgflyer 0 #13 July 15, 2009 Thanks everyone! All this info has been very interesting and helpful. I might take a look at some full faces to see if I can find something that might work. More input is welcome. Keep it coming!
sraja 0 #14 July 15, 2009 I jump with glasses all the time as well and use a Bonehead Havok. It opens up as well under canopy and works just fine.
Kell.nl 0 #15 July 15, 2009 A different approach that I used, and not only for skydiving, is using night lenses. These are lenses that you wear while you sleep but take out when you wake up. They shape your cornea and then you have good vision during the day. I can even go two days without wearing them and still have 20/20 vision (actually 20/15 on one eye, so even better ^^). These lenses are called ortho-k. I decided on this because my normal eye sight isn't too bad so I didn't want to risk surgery. With ortho-k (provided you follow hygiene guidelines), there is almost no risk. If you stop wearing the lenses, the cornea eventually assume their original shape. But of course always check with your eye doc instead of believing a random stranger on the internet :P So now I wear regular goggles for skydiving. SEREJumper 1 #16 July 15, 2009 I jump with a Bonehead Mamba and contacts, no issues. I've also seen Mambas and Freezer helmets with glasses underneath with good success. We're not fucking flying airplanes are we, no we're flying a glorified kite with no power and it should be flown like one! - Stratostar
Dumpster 0 #17 July 21, 2009 I had a pair of wrap-around prescription sunglasses made up - (Arnette) with Transition lenses - Work great under my Mamba full-face and on the motorcycle. Easy Does It
R1DOC 0 #18 July 22, 2009 I have a bonehead mamba. Glasses fit well. Won't jump without it I like it that much.
KermieCorleone 0 #19 July 23, 2009 I just take my glasses off when I jump, but that not might be the ideal solution because sometimes its quite reading figuring out the which way the wind indicator is blowing when setting up a landing pattern ...- Neil Never make assumptions! glgflyer 0 #20 July 24, 2009 Won't work for me. I can't even read my altimeter without my glasses!
