Cool New Music?

Recommended Posts

Because all of my extra money goes to either jumping or buying equipment I haven't purchased a new cd(or acquired in any other fashion) new music in quite some time. I saw the Green Day performance on The Late Show last week and decided to get the cd. I like it a lot, so I was wondering:

What new music are you listening too?

Two crappy, but opposite, pop songs put together! :)
http://strangely-familiar.com/index2.htm (Tons here...I like "I Will Survive" mixed with "Without Me." I want to play it at a party)
http://www.partyben.com/downloads/ (4th one on that page is decent)

I wouldn't call most of it "good" in a musical sense. However, some of it sounds really neat, and some of them make great party tunes.
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

A buddy of mine just came back from overseas with some stuff by a band called: "Funeral for a friend". it's pretty cool and if you like Greenday you'll probably like that too.

edited to fix my spelling of "Greebday" ;)

The only music I've listened to lately besides my own is:

Evanescence http://www.evanescence.com/

Fallen is an awesome over the top Album

The Donnas http://www.thedonnas.com/

Fall Behind Me is OTT :)
Michele Branch http://www.michellebranch.com/

Is just all around great ;)

Breathe & Are You Happy Now?, & All You Wanted are some of the sweetest songs I've heard since Heart was in their day.

Before thoses, Kylie Minogue put me right over the top with her Fever Album.

And, of course:

Sheryl Crow

Alanis Morisette

But, these two have been around for years now.

For the last few months I have only been jamming to live CDs. I want to hear the "real" band and not studio pro tool tricks!;)

The Allman brothers-Live at the Filmore east and Alanta Pop Festival......both recorded in 1970

DMB-Central Park and Folsom

Yellow Jackets(Jazz)-Mint Jam

Peter Gabrial-Secret World

The Doors-Live in Detriot, recorded in 69 or 70.

And some local live stuff that I booted myself!;);)

others mean and rueful of the western dream"

Thanks for the help from those that have previously posted. Surely others out there are aware of some cool new music?

Help me out people!

Check out www.joshgoodeband.com

Look in the media section for "The Hangover Song"

They're a local band here in TX, a friend of mine used to play guitar for them. The song is hilarious, and so true...

Hell yes to all of that. (nice signature too) I haven't heard of WIG but I will check it out.

Do you have a good quality version of Frances the Mute? As I'm sure you know it will not be on the streets for quite some time... the only pre's I found were crap quality.

New music for me:

Lou Barlow's solo "debut" (after a decade of insanely prolific songwriting with Sebadoh, Sentridoh, and the Folk Implosion)... worth checking this album out for the folk style cover of Ratt's Round-n-Round alone... (yes you read that right)
The Fucking Champs
Isis
Opeth, Katatonia, and Anathema (still haven't tired of these 3 yet)
Iron & Wine
the new Bright Eyes is phenomenal (as expected) and I'm seeing them in 9 days
The Good Life's new one is still really fresh too
The Arcade Fire
My Chemical Romance
Thrice's Illusion of Safety has not left my car in some time...
all things Steve Wilson - Blackfield, Office of Strategic Influence, and very much looking forward to the new Porcupine Tree (w/ guest appearance from Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth)
it's hardly new, but I've been listening to Rush and Neil Young a lot...
and some old Bad Religion :)

Do yourself a favor and check out some of the older Modest Mouse, like This is a Long Drive or Lonesome Crowded West. Their new stuff isn't bad (which is surprising since it's getting played on the radio), but I'm really fond of their early stuff. The song Shit Luck makes me laugh out loud every time...

Not exactly new, but relatively new to me (and I'm seeing them live for the first time tonight - yay!) .... The Supersuckers.

www.supersuckers.com Note, the link is SFW, however, if your office has a heavy-handed web filter like mine it may get classified as porn anyway.

the leak i got off IRC was decent quality. it sounds fine on my computer speakers, but on any discerning system (my car or home system), it sounds pretty bad. but its good enough to tide me over until i can buy the real release. although the FTM single should be out feb. 8th.....should be interesting.

I've been working my way backwards... haven't had many of the older ones for too long. Shit Luck... that on Lonesome Crowded West? Only older song I can recal right now is about wild dogs eating my sister or something. Good stuff :)
