NEPTUNE

Recommended Posts

I just got my Irda device in the mail and updated my NEPTUNE with the 1.21 update. It was pretty simple, other than getting the neptune to go into the "bootloger mode" But once you figure it out its simple.

Overall i like what the updates are claiming they do. Can't wait to jump it again...

If anyone at RAEFORD or surrounding area wants me to update it... PM me...

sure did, i think the update are sweet... especially the 40% battery life increase....

though they should have worked out some of these bugs though a better fielding plan... I htink this possible might have the chance to become a better product than the protrack. Especailly if they get that "BIRDMAN" mode. I know it willl be hard for them to beat the customer service of L&B though....

edit ot add: I also have and still use both my PROTRACK AND NEPTUNE. I like them both and am undecided on which is better. If I had to choose, I would lean towards my PT...

Yea, I use em both too ... PT in the shoe, Neptune on my wrist (for now). A pocket is coming out as a wingsuit mod ... soon you will be able to add a clear pocket to put the neptune to make it viewable on your upper arm instead of your wrist ...
Tough call to choose between the PT and Neptune, but honestly, I think I'm leaning on the Neptune right now ...

Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!

Oh, yea ... there's a software mod, and there's also going to be a suit mod so you can read it better too ... two different mods, sorry for the mix up ...

I'm looking forward to the software as well!

I also can't wait for the log book software

That would make 2 of us.

We have an agreement with authors of Paralog to include an interface to Neptune, Paralog will enable Neptune owners to download and display detailed profiles as well as transferring jump information to a database.

Did Alti-2 make a mistake in choosing a client software company? I hope not. I'm hoping to be able to get the data out of my Neptune before it's gone, which with a wingsuit, will be less than 10 jumps of detailed data.

Ya hear this Alti-2?

Just thought i'd bring the subject of Neptunes up again,
If you don't know what one is then look at their site:
http://www.alti-2.com/neptune.htm

They are the official sponsors of BPA Freeflying events in the UK for 2005.
http://www.bpa.org.uk/artisticcompsnews.htm

They are fantastic! although they are not too common in the UK yet all the people i know that have them are really impressed, especially the Wingsuit flyers as the logbook on the ProTrack usually messes up,

They are now on Version 2.3.1
NV-RAM error eliminated,
improved battery meter,

plus all the stuff sorted in 2.3.0
Max Altitude is now 40,000 ft +
"No Log" Icon Added when logbook is disabled
Changes to method of writing and reading log to prevent log errors
Changes to backlight control to prevent lockup after landing
Corrected metric date format
Updater is now a .net program and should work with macs (not tested)

If you can't update your Neptune then they have a field support team near you

Anyone have any experience with the "swoop mode?"

I'm not a swooper but I have the alarms at altitudes that make sense for me.

1000' - 500' - 200'

1000' make sure I'm not crossing any runways
500' make sure I'm on base leg
200' make sure I'm on final

I still check my altimeter and eyeballing altitude is always important but the reminders are nice.

I use the swoop mode for
alert 1 - set up
alert 2 - start turn
alert 3 - if you've not recovered yet then you're in trouble!
Dunno why there are 3 alerts though i only usually use the second one.

When its wrist mounted you can still hear it beep under canopy which is handy

Personally I think (based on what you wrote) that you're using the neptune too much and I really don't like your 3rd alert usage description.

There are 3 alerts are generally used as follows:
1) Leave the holding area and start your downwind leg
2) Base leg
3) Get ready for turn

If you're using the neptune to tell you when to turn or tell you when you're in the corner you're going to come short at some point. Just prior to turn I use it to confirm I'm around the altitude my eyes tell me I'm at. I use the LOWER of the two (if I look low but neptune says I'm high I treat it like I'm low) for a quick buffer check. That and the pattern entry alts I described, although to date, I've been using it visually only with no audible settings.

Yeah that sounds better,
I thought that 3 was too many beeps, so the 3rd one was just a left over,
But i'm gonna change it based on what you've suggested
