AggieDave 6 #1 April 8, 2005 This is a fun trivia contest, no real prizes, but this isn't easy and it'll send you all around the 'net looking for the answer. Look at this sat image: Clicky Do you see the plane in the middle to the right of the F-14? The one with the HUGE wings? What is that plane? I'll get you started, that's a sat image of the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and the Aerospace Maintenance and Recovery Center (AMARC). It took FlyingFerret and I about 5 minutes of hard googling to come up with the answer. Can you beat 5 minutes?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." flyingferret 0 #3 April 8, 2005 This one, just for clarification. Not sure if it is next to an f14 or F111-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
AggieDave 6 #4 April 8, 2005 Quote U-2 or TR-2 Nope, not those AC. The wings are MUCH too thick for that.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
nigelh 0 #5 April 8, 2005 Dunno what it is, but i can see why you guys like bombing everyone! With all those planes sitting around you obviously get a bit twitchy! AggieDave 6 #6 April 8, 2005 Those are all scrap planes. They don't fly anymore. However, they *used* to fly. A large majority of the stuff there is from the Cold War.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

AggieDave 6 #10 April 8, 2005 Quote Sure about that? ___________________ Yup, once you figure out what the plane really is, you'll understand. Hint, look at the distance between the fuselage and the tail and the thickness of the fuselage. Nevermind those large engines hanging on the wings...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

AggieDave 6 #13 April 8, 2005 Although the U2-C is on the same field, that's not the plane. You're gonna have to look a bit harder. lummy 4 #17 April 8, 2005 I'd guess a B17 based on the thick wings although they had 4 engines not two and on a side note, these would be kinda cool playing cardsI promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. AggieDave 6 #22 April 8, 2005 Quote Lockheed SP-2H Neptune Close, but not a large enough wingspan.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
flyingferret 0 #23 April 8, 2005 That seems to be as close a match as we could find. The wingspan is at least very close to the c 130, it almost look longer. The top silhuette is very weird, hence my question to Dave in the first place...the wings are very long and very thick to only have two engine mounts. If someone can beat the B57, I am impressed, but I think that is it.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
