dunesurfer 0 #1 May 13, 2005 Last night was feeding night, so I took some pics of my Hog Island Boas. I am surprised that these are not more popular as pets. They are an island subspecies and have evolved into a dwarfed size due to change in food supply. The females top out at 6 feet compared to their mainland cousins that can easily reach 12. The males are even smaller than the females at about 4 foot. They have a very mellow temperament due to no predation on these islands.

tigra 0 #8 May 13, 2005 As snakes go, they're quite beautiful actually. But I wouldn't have one for a pet.

The Boas aren't albino.... but hypomelanistic, which is reduced black pigment. It is an identifying trait of the Hog island Boa

homer 0 #16 May 13, 2005 If it weren't for my skydiving addiction and my now short attention span for reading and studying, I was planning to major in Herpatology specializing in venomous snakes. Now I'm going to get a business investments degree. Something about six more years of school makes me sick. CSA #699 Muff #3804
