The women wrestlers today are more like models or porn stars. I want to puke every time they try to wrestle.

But you think about The Fabulous Moolah's 22 year reign as Women's World Champion in the 70's and 80's, you can't help but marvel at how long that really is. Nobody can hold a title much longer than a year anymore.

Baron von Raschke...that's an oldie.
Years ago I was head of the audio department at a civic venue, and would run sound during the wrestling meets.
von Raschke would sit in the stands during setup, was a hoot to listen to. He also carried a small piece of razor in his wristguard to cut his forehead so he'd bleed. It was always fun seeing his Claw come out, and he'd squeeze apples or whatever fruit was available.
Hulk Hogan was just getting started in those days, he was also a very cordial guy out of the ring.
FWIW, the AWA was the first promotion group (AFAIK) to come up with the idea of mic'ing the ring floor. Their stage rider was incredibly detailed for how the mat had to be mic'd and mixed.

i used to LOVE watching wrestling when i was a kid - we went as a family to summer slam '88 and it was amazing

there isnt a single wrestler previously mentioned that i didn't love - there are home videos of me doing hulk hogan's little routine before and after every match and singing "i am a real american" ;)

also liked bret the hitman heart, ted dibiasi, and mr perfect (rip)

I grew up with two brothers, so I ended up watching wrestling too. Dusty Rhodes is the one I remember the most, and Gordon Solly was the announcer. I grew up watching "OLD SCHOOL" in the late 60's and 70's. Bull Dog Brower, Andre the Giant, Abula the Butcher, Killer Carl Cox, Mario Milano, Speros Areon. Cowboy Wilson.

Another one I liked that I forgot to mention was Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff. He had a devastating piledriver, I remember when he damn near broke a guy's neck with it.

Anyone have any favorite losers? Mine was Leaping Lanny Poffo. I used to love the way he'd deliver those corny poems and then get his ass kicked left and right, what a riot that was Iron Mike Sharpe was a fun loser to watch too.

Are you from the Tampa area? That's another local boy you've mentioned.
Paul went to Brandon High School and was a top-notch football star until he got into wrestling.

Here's two others that were huge in the SE Region:

Buzz Sawyer and Tommy Rich. I remeber Tommy Rich getting his ass kicked at the Columbus Municipal Auditorium by Buzz Sawyer. The brawl spilled into the audience and everyone went wild.

So far, this is the oldest I've ever been.
