ntrprnr 0 #1 December 2, 2007 Hey gang... So I got invited by the publicist of the WSOP-A to come down to Atlantic City and take part in the 2-day academy. I accepted, took my dad, and down to Atlantic City we went. Long story short - I've never, never played poker before. Not even like a little bit. I've played on my phone - but that doesn't count. So the best part of the course, in my opnion, was a two hour lecture by Joe Navarro on how to detect tells and the like in people - total FBI stuff - SO cool. Limbic responses - fascinating. Truly fascinating. Then the tournament happened that night - I wound up surviving from 99 players down to 42 before I was eliminated. It felt SO awesome to get even that far - considering, honestly, I learned the basics that morning on my blackberry by Googling "how to play Poker." I know for sure I was the least experienced player there - At one point I was forced to go all-in by the 2006 WSOP winner - I had like 3,000 in chips left and he tried to steal the pot. Showing was an A, K, J, 4, 2 - and I had a 10 and a Q. He was shocked. It was an awesome, awesome experience - makes me want to know how to play more and to practice. Which begs the following question: Any advice on what downloadable versions to buy? Keep in mind, I don't want to play online or challenge anyone - yet... I just want a good Texas Hold 'Em game for my PC. Any recommendations? Also - Can you identify the people I'm with here? VincentVL. 0 #2 December 2, 2007 I'm no expert but you can't learn poker by playing against a computer. You don't have to pay to play online. I play on partypoker and I only do the play money games. As far as games, the new 2008 World Series of Poker game is pretty good. http://www.amazon.com/World-Poker-2008-Battle-Bracelets/dp/B000TTDLO4 I play on Absolutepoker.net. They have "play" money games as well as some pretty cheap tournaments. But if all you want right now is a PC game....then the one above is the best I've found. I have the 2007 version as well. It's an interesting transition to go from interacting with people, to realizing "holy shit I knew he/she was going to do that...", to actually acting on it. Edit: Grab any video game just to learn how to play and to get used to how the cards come at you. Play online to go against real brains, play in casinos to play real poker. Once you play and begin to do well online you won't play your computer game much anymore, once you play in casinos or live games more you'll see the shortcomings of online. But that has still been a few months. Looks nothing like him to me. I'll post another pic of him...... bigway 4 #19 December 4, 2007 Im in a satellite tourney at the casino today for the Pokerstars.net asia grand final. I have not slept in 2 days and that is when i usually play my best. buy in is only $160. Joe Hacham and many other pros will be there as there are big tourneys all week. I am feeling so amped up for this right about now. If i dont make the satellite i will buy a ticket for $6500. There is only 335 people in it so far and they will only get another 100-150 total as the grand final is only a week away and poker is new over here in Australia. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . People tend to play more serioulsy there. Ever since I ran out of money in my account last week, I have been playing the 50K and 80K buyin play money tables with reasonable success. They do play serious for the most part up there, not like the all-ins on almost every other hand insanity at the low buyins. After New Year's, I'll get some money back in my account.
