mbondvegas 0 #26 January 14, 2008 QuoteShee---it, I havent landed on the golf course. I landed there once (on jump #53)...when I had learned how to track quite well...but not how to estimate my canopy's glide range or maximize my canopy glide. I tell you, when we opened today (quite north of the end of the runway) on that last jump...I know there were a couple of us thinking it might be challenging to get back (and might land in either the golf course or Arizona)...but the wind was WAY strong and the only issue was getting any penetration after turning on final...and of course avoiding being dragged after landing.- - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today. jtval 0 #27 January 14, 2008 Yea. I was in the midst of turning my demo'd main back in to aerodyne. I looked up and saw al kindsa shitty landings...then the aerodyne folks and I talked about how much easier it was to watch those canopies then to land them LOL.My photos My Videos
DSE 3 #28 January 14, 2008 We did get a successful rodeo off today, meant to share the pix with you there... Thanks to Jeremy, JT, Mike, Brad, Les, and everyone else at Mesquite that made us feel welcome. Wish I hadn't had a helluva head cold. With only 7 jumps over two days...didn't quite feel right. Tiffani Hardcastle got her 100th jump for the rodeo, and got pied to boot. There is a short video at the bottom of her index pic page. Rodeo pix Man, that wind gust on the second to the last load was something else.

jtval 0 #30 January 14, 2008 Excellent shots. I totally missed jeremy's 1200th jump by 3 minutes. As a vidiot/photard I was bummed. I guess we'll try again next weekend. It waas great to meet you in person, Spot. Thanks for your generousity. My photos My Videos
chaoskitty 0 #31 January 14, 2008 Browsing DSE's photo's.. I thought how it would probably suck to face plant in that landing area. Then I clicked on this photo.
DSE 3 #32 January 14, 2008 He wasn't the only one. There was a woman that landed a bit long and didn't quite PLF correctly. She sprained her wrist due to the lack of flare and how she struck the asphalt. The peas are fairly deep, if you land in them.
jtval 0 #33 January 14, 2008 Yea those peas are very absorbant.Problem is most of the people that would benefit from them can't hit them. My photos My Videos

DSE 3 #44 January 16, 2008 Same can be said for the injury we had, flare stopped at mid chest even tho two of us were yelling "FLARE!" Then instead of PLF, she tried to "protect" her ass by putting down her hands on the asphalt. Wrist is swollen, black n' blue, blood blisters, and her ass is still nasty bruised. I didn't get a photo of her landing, I shot one at about 20' and noticed she hadn't moved from half-brakes, so forgot about pix, and started yelling. Next time I'll just shoot pix. I got a few biffs on film. http://www.spottedeagle.com/Skydive/Mesquite2/content/IMG_0864_large.html
JohnMitchell 14 #45 January 16, 2008 One of our video guys got on of our jumpers landing just short of the tuffet, full sink, with no PLF. You could hear the ankle breaking on the video. You could also hear a shouted "PLF" just prior to landing.
jtval 0 #46 January 16, 2008 OUCH! THAT HAS TO SUCK. I mean youre totally not trying to land nicely. youre trying to reach the tuffet. too late to PLF. That something we havent done this year (2008) yet. a Hit and chug. at the next boogie we will. LAdy, MAybe I'll post a picture of the modification I made.My photos My Videos
JohnMitchell 14 #47 January 17, 2008 Quote too late to PLF. Yes, it did suck. but it's never too late to PLF. I'm ready for one every time I land.
jtval 0 #48 January 17, 2008 The way I saw accuracy is they are in a "sitting on the floor" postion and try to stall drop themselves on it. Of course, this is when they are OVER The tuffet. If one wasn't over the tuffet I would hope that position isn't used.My photos My Videos
JohnMitchell 14 #49 January 17, 2008 Quote If one wasn't over the tuffet I would hope that position isn't used. Yes, exactly. You have to be judging when you're going to miss the tuffet. I've always said that shooting accuracy is not hazardous, but learning to shoot accuracy is.
