UFC 82 Henderson v Silva

I just hope that its not the first sign of the rats leaving the ship before it sinks.

If this is the case the two daddy rats just jumped ship, if Dana had an ounce of common sense he would ask Randy to fight minotauro seeing as he has earned his shot while they continue negotiations with Fedor for a multi promotion fight.

but the UFC has the mainstream exposure and recognition, we lose the UFC we lose our biggest outlet, Dana needs to go, he only got the job because he was buddies with the Fertitas and suked up to emto get it

How bout someone who just loves the sport, as something more than an ATM, put someone like Dan Severn in charge, someone who just wants to help the sport. Give it 5 years and Forrest will be the perfect candidate, I'd say Tito but as long as Jenna is pulling his string I don't trust her.

Sad is it not? There has to be more UFC fans on here...

Hey you peeps from the ATL...I'm ready to take the bets. I'm calling Henderson!! James? David?

I will take silva, for sake of fun. I am not a believer but to make it worth rooting for I will wager a jump ticket.

Although I don't know know how fitch is fighting yet. I'll take him for the win, Alex.

I'll take Kongo. His ground game has been getting better. (still sloppy in the last fight but I never knew he had ground game) I think the fight will be toe to toe until someone gets dizzy. the ground game will win the fight. Probably by points not submission.

I was the only person out of everyone I know who called Mir to win, I called Gonzaga over Cro Cop, GSP over Hughes, I've been on a roll this year.

I called all of those except Gonzaga. How you ever managed to pull that one off is beyond me, but kudos to you. Still, I have to take Silva in this one.

Are you serious? How in the world are any of these guys even remotely capable of managing a multimillion dollar business with international dealings? I just don't get the Dana hate. The guy has been nothing short of brilliant and its still not enough. He got the NSAC on board by hiring one of the members of the board to propose rules everyone could live with. He pitched the reality tv show which has put MMA on the map. He took it international and is pulling huge in the UK and Canada will be a smash. He presided over turning around a company deeply in debt and closing in on folding and riding it to prosperity. I guaran-fucking-tee you that without Dana, Rich Franklin is back in Ohio teaching highschool classes and making the occasional trip to Japan to do some slap boxing. Replacing a guy with a track record of nothing but great success doesn't make any sense. Replacing that guy with someone who is unqualified for the job is ridiculous.

I don't know about that...Kongo has proven to be quite a fighter. I honestly can't say that Herring will take him out so I can't make this wager. B|

His strikes have pinpoint accuracy, and insane speed, one thing they do lack however is one punch knockout power

What?? Tell that to Nate Marquardt.

another place he hasn't been touched, his chin.

we haven't seen someone really give him a good chin check yet, so that is definitely suspect.

Total nonsense. There are 10+ threads on Sherdog of people asking about Silva's chin, and the consensus is that he has taken massive shots and barely blinked. If you look on Youtube you can also find several videos of him taking shots directly on the chin and being unfazed. Watch his fight with Murray, for example.

I've missed a few of Silva's earlier fights, I'll have to go do a youtube search, in the fights I've see of his I have yet to see someone check how thick his whiskers are.

I called Gonzaga because he had a top notch ground game and wasn't afrid to get close and mix it up with CC. I'll admit Randy's pick for Gonzaga had a lot to do with my decision, he brought to light that CC's biggest weakness was grapplers who aren't afraid to close the distance, if Randy ever squared up with him I think he'd be kryptonite for that guy.

The current money line is:

Silva -175
Henderson + 135

Evidently the bookmakers see Silva as the favorite by a considerable margin.

IMO, one can make more money betting that the bookies know what they are talking about than they can betting against them. If offered an even bet, the smart money is on Silva.

Actually one could've retired off of betting against the bookies last year, I'm going to stick with Hendo against all odds on this one. I think if there's one thing that can stop Dan in this fight it's himself, he could've won that Rampage fight if he had relied a little more on his wrestling skills and less on his standup game. If he keeps Silva on his back defending long enough to wear him down a bit it will go a long way to giving dan an opening to knock him out on his feet.

About the Dana white converstaion, I agree that dana has done some great things in the past, but it seems that the money and fame has led him astray. There comes a point when someone has maximized their contributions and it's time to go a different way, I feel that's what time it is for Dana and the Fertittas.

This statement makes me think you don't understand how bookmaking works. Sportsbooks don't claim that a certain outcome is going to occur, they offer probabilities of a certain outcome occurring.

If your statement is true, the odds on favorites lost the majority of the time last year. I have a hard time believing that happened. Underdogs are expected to win sometimes, just not most of the time.

2007 was the year of the upsets, a LOT of the big fights last year were won by the underdogs, Jackson, Serra, Randy, Gonzaga, Koscheck, it was a big year for the up and comers.

a LOT != most

But go ahead and consistently bet against the bookies knowing how to do their job if you want to. :D

On what? Your comment on rednecks and wrestling (which I don't recall reading) or bookies correctly picking the winner the majority of the time? Or did you want to take Henderson over Silva for even money?

I'm not interested in the first one, but I find the other two appealing. I'm not interested in a large bet, since I don't gamble with money I don't have, but I'm not opposed to a small, friendly wager. With whom do you suggest we post our money? (PM your suggestion.)

no no no, friendly bet, not for money!!! and no i didn't want to bet on bookies being right the majority of the time. I'll take Hendo to win and when I'm right you have to make a post in the bonfire titled "GQ was so much righter than me" and in the post you have to discuss the awesomenicity of my correctitudeness in all aspects of fight predicting, along with the post you have to post a pic of you holding a sign declaring how truthishly great my predictions are. And if Silva wins I'll be sure to PM you to remind you that the bet has been cancelled:P

I don't gamble for the sake of hubris. I gamble to make money, just like any other investor. I don't know anything about Silva or Henderson, and bet or no bet, I won't be inclined to watch the fight; violence simply does not interest me. What I do know is that bookies are right more often that they're wrong.

They say arguing over sports is unbecoming of a gentleman, and one should either be willing to back their claims up with cash or shut up. I'm quite willing to post my money, how about you?
