Nataly 38 #1 April 17, 2013 Hum... I had set up an Exchange email with my Mac Mail app... To save space, I deleted this account and everything that was stored on the server... So my (work) Outlook inbox is now TOTALLY empty. Nothing in archive, either. Oh dear. I am *trying* not to panic... Our IT guru is on the case. I am torn between wanting to cry at my own stupidity and wanting to laugh because until it's resolved I can't do ANY work!!! They threw huge amount of money and staff at their "backup solution". Yesiree, they backed up everything all night long! But the first time we needed a failed machine restored? FlyingRhenquest 1 #10 April 18, 2013 I actually prefer an EMACS-based E-Mail client with the MIT remembrance agent running. It's so much easier to organize mail, clear out vast swaths of useless crap at once and have it suggest conversations that took place a couple years earlier when you're mailing someone about a problem. Only down side is it seems to reliably eat my entire inbox every 4-5 years, which is a huge pain in the ass. But I find I can generally live without that 5 years' accumulation of stuff in my inbox. Eeh... maybe it's time to look at that solution again...I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here? Eeh... maybe it's time to look at that solution again... I don't know why but my mac email would periodically tell me to put in my password for an email account, and then would proceed to re-sync it like I had added this email for the first time... It was a little bothersome so I decided to stop using it... I deleted all my accounts and at some point it asked me if I wanted to also delete the emails from my server... I assumed it meant the Mac server (not my work server with all the original data)... STUPID mistake: I clicked "yes" So here I am, email-less at work... FORTUNATELY, I have one month's worth of emails on my Blackberry... But any attachment I didn't open previously is in some kind of black hole... I think I need to get myself a cable to connect my Macbook to my iMac and restore the deleted emails from my hard drive that way..."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
IJskonijn 39 #12 April 18, 2013 If your work has a half-way decent IT infrastructure, they should have backups. At most, that'll mean ~24 hours of mail gone. Also, if your IT guru can fix it, buy him/her a beer and/or a cookie. We tech folk appreciate thankful users, as we already have more than enough unthankful ones...
