ryoder 1,408 #4 December 17, 2015 There are a variety of weeds that can form tumbleweeds. Heck, I even have some of them in my back yard. It just requires a bushy weed that dies in the fall, and a dry climate that dries out the portion above ground, while the ground has enough moisture that the main stalk rots away about an inch below ground. Then the bushy portion detaches from the roots and the wind can blow it away. I once encountered a tumbleweed stampede South of Longmont on the way to MHS. It wasn't as heavy as the one in the video."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. JerryBaumchen 1,077 #7 December 17, 2015 Hi wally, QuoteWTF exactly is a tumblweed ? See ryoder's post. But, for the most part, they are sagebrush that has dried out & broken off. To BV: I experienced the same type of tumbleweed storm on I-84 in eastern Oregon about 1 1/2 yrs ago.
