cvfd1399 0 #1 February 29, 2004 This is one of the rings off of the release. It is only frayed on one side, and only on one riser. I say frayed, but Does it HAVE to be replaced or is ok?
Phillbo 11 #2 February 29, 2004 If in doubt, have it looked at by a rigger.
cvfd1399 0 #3 February 29, 2004 I am, I was just bracing myself for a fall, wondering what you guys thought
TimDave 0 #4 February 29, 2004 There looks like enough wear and damage to warrant replacement but your local friendly rigger is your best source. I would replace it if it were mine.
cvfd1399 0 #5 February 29, 2004 Yea It is on the rsl side so if it blew out I might have a 2 out situation with a main still half attached. I just bought the rig from a guy and did not notice it until I got home.
TimDave 0 #6 February 29, 2004 In the big picture it will cost maybe $100. I would also have the rig taken apart and looked over by your rigger to see anything internal or subtle. It should only cost about $20 and a repack. Well worth that investment.
cvfd1399 0 #7 February 29, 2004 Well I am getting another set of risers for it from aubrey, and riggger will have it to install aad so i will get him to give her a once over. Thanks guys and gals
TimDave 0 #8 February 29, 2004 Than you should save a few bucks then! You are welcome.
kenneth21441 0 #9 February 29, 2004 I would recommend the replacement of this part as in the photos supplied it looks like it is frayed on both sides. Granted air items are rated pretty well, but when it comes to both sides coming undone. That is not good. I would also look into why this got into this condition to begin with... A jumper should also have his or her main gear inspected (either by the jumper and/ or rigger) every few months when they are getting the reserve done to find anything before it can or does cause a problem.. Until then take care, Ken..Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith

diablopilot 2 #11 February 29, 2004 I wouldn't jump it. New risers are cheap insurance. What you picturer is *probably* good for a whole lotta more jumps. Hundreds. Why chance it?---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Being from a MT1-X they could have taken loads upto 300+ lbs at 30,000 feet several times. Replace them and sleep better. riggerrob 564 #14 February 29, 2004 When your rigger replaces those risers, ask him/her to closely inspect the harness rings for roughness. Just last summer I grounded a pair of risers - that resembled yours from a distance. Upon closer inspection we found serious roughness on the harness rings. Fortunately the owner already ordered a new harness.

GravityGirl 0 #16 February 29, 2004 If I took it into my shop to sell on consignment, I would replace it. Maintenance and replace items such as risers, pilot chute, lines and d-bags. Those are the wear and tear items. How many jumps are on those risers? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
cvfd1399 0 #17 February 29, 2004 No clue on how many on the risers, but the main and lines are new (approx 4 jumps). I have another set comming.
