Tension knot @ the Go Fast Games-or- Dead Man Walking

Recommended Posts

What a place for this to happen huh?

Clint managed to control his canopy well enough to put it down on the tracks unharmed.

Clint requested these pictures to be posted for all to enjoy, or cringe, and also to express ...
[Center]"Never give up"!!!

Nice work, landing that one safely. Mad Props! ... and a touch of good fortune to help out;)

Do you know anything about the configuration (direct indirect slider control), condition of the tailpocket, canopy and size, container...?

Thanks!

I was using aWarlock, Dagger 244, tail pocket is in good condition. I was using the slidergate by Vertigo. Two wraps on it.

I think it was just bad luck.

The last picture is how It looked when I landed.

I was wondering if that was you. What did you do to try and clear it or did you just stare at it in disbelief?:|

When you were flying it did you have to countersteer and then land with a partial flare or what?

Glad everthing worked out.:)

ya, that was me. I did a 4 sec delay.
At first it put me into 2 line twists and also a 90 right.

SO I got out of the line twists, turned away from the wall. I yanked down the rear risers twice and then I released my brakes.

I tried to stall it but no luck.

I toggled it 180 and started planning the landing. I knew it wasn't going to clear so I just tried to keep it flying straight.

I really was pulling me to the left, then the right. I decided that is was flying good enough that I could land on the railroad tracks. I though about the water but it was cold and moving pretty fast. I would have went for the water if it was dropping out of the sky but it was ok.

I just prepared myself for the hard landing.

The video of the jump looks crazy!!!!!!!! I wish I could put it online but no way to do it.

It'll be in Continumm 3, I'm sure.

Someone else asked, any ideas how it happened?
Not really. Maybe the way I did my slidergate but that's about it.

I can't really explain how I did the slidergate in writting. But I really don't think it was that??

WHo knows, but I'm still alive. Oh and that was the 1st BASE jump my mom watched. Go figure:(

She did watch the very next one.

It took me about 20 mins to get the nerve to put my rig on.

It took another few minutes once I climbed over. Shaking like mad.

As I jumped, I said "I hope this one works!"

My mom didn't like that comment.

Looks like lineover at the center cell, probably below the slider, which I can't understand (without mentionning line twists)... Anyway, great recovery. You deserved few beers.

Usually it's too large a PC that can cause malfunction, not too small. Undersized PC's can lead to slower openings, pc's caught in burble, insufficient snatch force, etc. But I can't think of a reason that a smaller PC would cause a tension knot or line over. Malfunctions like that would result from an oversized PC.

How would a larger PC be more likely to induce a tension knot than a smaller PC? I can't think of a reason a Larger PC would cause it? The only way I could see it to be an issue is by not using or not enough tension on the primary stow.

If there's a quicker extraction, doesn't it seem the lines will tension quicker making it less likely for a tension knot to occur? Also a faster extraction (with in reason), seems like it would be at least more likely to stay on heading. A slower extractions seems like it would be more likely to allow off heading or even line twists.

What do you think?

I think a larger PC is more likely to strip the center cell and/or deform the (freepacked) canopy as it extracts.

The difference in extraction rates (and resulting tension) between the various lines in this scenario could cause all kinds of weirdness.
